Thousands of Parents Protest in Capitol Against Covid-19 Vaccine Mandate for K-12 Students

Over a thousand people were protesting the impending COVID-19 vaccine requirement for California’s K-12 children on Monday morning on the west grounds of the state Capitol.

According to the KCRA News, once the vaccine is approved for different age groups by the United States government, the mandate calls for all elementary and high school children to receive the doses. Only those aged 16 and up have received this approval thus far.

Newsom stated that the law will effect on July 1, 2022, for students in grades 7 through 12.

Parents and Guardians are against the mandate

However, as a part of the protest, parents who opposed the requirement in California planned to keep their children home from school.

One of the parents marched with a state flag upside down on a long pole and said that they would not co-parent with the government.

Protesters such as Coachella’s Celeste Fiehler of the Parent Union joined the demonstration, demanding a voice at the table and opposing the state’s unilateral action.

As reported by The Sacramento Bee, the demonstration was organized by Placer County mothers Amber Faddis and Tess Van Dusen using Facebook. Families who liked and shared the initiative on social media were urged to keep their children home from school when it was released.

Imposing Vaccine Mandate

According to the Professor of the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law Leslie

Gielow Jacobs, the procedure for mandating vaccines for kids, is not, as she spoke about COVID-19 as a new illness.

“Governments imposing vaccine requirements have been held consistent with the Constitution several times,” said Gielow Jacobs, as quoted by the KCRA News.

As soon as the federal government gives its final approval, the requirement will go into force. Those students who don’t want to get the vaccination must do a home study program.
