2023 Prius Release Date: The return of the TOYOTA PRIUS with its updated appearance ushers in a new era of refined EV styling. The new Prius Prime, introduced this week in Japan, keeps the hybrid’s signature “wedge form,” but it goes all out on curves, boasting soft “contemporary lines” and eschewing the Prius’s traditional hard angles.
The 2023 Prius’s exterior has been redesigned to look more modern and aerodynamic. This has a positive impact on the vehicle’s fuel economy and is a major improvement for anyone looking to purchase a gas/electric hybrid.

What’s New In Prius?
Even if the 2023 Prius Prime is still a hybrid, Toyota expects that its customers will be able to use the electric motor instead of the gas engine for the majority of their everyday commutes. The 2023 Prius’s battery mode, the carmaker claims, has 50 per cent more range than the previous generation, making it more competitive with specialised EVs.
That’s an increase from the previous Prius Prime’s 25-mile range to an estimated 37-mile range. To achieve a lower centre of gravity and greater driving range, Toyota placed a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 13.6 kWh under the back seats.
For most people, that’s probably enough range to go around town and maybe even make a one-way commute to work, but it’s certainly nowhere like what a conventional, full-on EV would get on a single charge (the median is roughly 230 miles on a full charge).
The seven-inch TFT LCD screen is the focal point of the driver console. There aren’t any particularly impressive design flourishes (especially in light of the existence of Mercedes-Hyperscreen Benz in this universe).
However, Toyota claims that it made an effort to design its in-vehicle screens to be lower-profile and less distracting, which is good news for people who worry that looking at a big screen in the car will take their attention away from the road.
The new 2023 Toyota Prius has a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system that was developed by Toyota’s Connected Technologies unit in Texas to help make passengers’ lives easier. Over-the-air (OTA) upgrades are just one of many ways that Prius owners will be able to take advantage of the latest in connection and convenience features.
Touch controllers and voice commands make the system easy to use. The Connected Service Drive Connect provides users with convenient access to helpful features including an Intelligent Assistant, Cloud-based navigation, and Destination Assist.
Saying “Hey Toyota” or another wake-up phrase activates Intelligent Assistant, which may be used to issue voice-activated instructions to do things like look up directions, locate points of interest (POIs), modify the volume, or even adjust the temperature within the car.
To get the most up-to-date maps, traffic, and routes, the in-car navigation system, known as Cloud Navigation, connects to the internet while driving. Google Points of Interest data is used for POI searches to give users the most up-to-date information possible.
Through Destination Assist, you can talk to a real person for help finding your next stop any time of the day or night. With the new Toyota Audio Multimedia, you may connect two Bluetooth® phones at once, and use them with the usual wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM compatibility.
Prius owners can also take advantage of an AT&T Hotspot by subscribing to Wi-Fi Connect for one month. This service provides 4G data for up to five devices. Wi-Fi Connect enables the new Integrated Streaming feature, allowing customers to link their separate Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle for in-car control, further enhancing the already robust offering of audio playback capability with HD Radio®, USB data, and a SiriusXM® Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription.
The Prius’s JBL® Premium Audio system boasts eight speakers, turning any song into a concert-worthy mobile experience. Only available on the Limited trim, the system uses Clari-Fi® technology to give compressed digital music formats a new lease on life and improve the listening experience. There is a plethora of optional Connected Services that can be added to any Prius.
For up to ten years, you can test out Safety Connect’s features including the Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator, and Collision Assistance.
With Service Connect, drivers can get up to a 10-year free trial, as well as Vehicle Health Reports, Maintenance Alerts, and reminders. The Toyota app provides Prius owners with a year of Remote Connect service for free (standard on XLE and Limited, optional on LE). The car’s headlights, doors, and ignition may all be operated from afar.
The user can view the current location of their vehicle, receive reminder notifications, and create Guest Driver Alerts. For the XLE and Limited Grades, a digital key is also available with Remote Connect, making it simple to lock and unlock doors, start the vehicle remotely, and more from a mobile device.

The Prius’s six USB ports are ready to meet your every charging demand. Two USB Type-C ports are located at the base of the centre stack and a second pair of these connectors is located in the centre console. Two USB Type-C ports are situated in the console’s lower back, providing easy access for those sitting in the second row.
Prius also has a wide variety of amenities designed to make life easier. All trim levels come included with blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert (BSM/RCTA). All trims include standard front and rear parking sensors and an automatic braking system.
The Limited trim adds a Panoramic Picture Monitor that can be rotated to provide a full 360-degree view of the area surrounding the car. Available on the Limited trim, the hands-free Advanced Park system aids in parallel parking and reversing into a parking spot.
The third version of Toyota’s standard safety suite, TSS, will be included in every Prius sold beginning in 2023. This set of active safety features is similar to what was offered in the first-generation Prius, but it has been upgraded and expanded upon. All of these precautions include:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- Automatic High Beams
- Proactive Driving Assist
Prius and the Toyota Safety Sense package have been updated to include a brand-new feature called Proactive Driving Assist.
Using the vehicle’s camera and radar, this system provides moderate braking into curves or mild braking and/or turning to aid support driving responsibilities including maintaining a safe following distance from an oncoming vehicle, pedestrian, or bike, when the system’s operational parameters are fulfilled.
The Pre-Collision System is not a replacement for Proactive Driving Assist because the two systems function differently.
