70,000 K-pop Enthusiasts Are Expected to Attend the 2022 Mama Awards in Osaka. The Mama Awards, formerly Asia’s largest K-pop awards ceremony, are on a mission to expand into a world-renowned music festival. The 2022 Mama Awards, formerly known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards, will be held at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan, over the course of two nights beginning on Tuesday.
The local entertainment giant CJ ENM is hosting the awards this year, and they anticipate a record-breaking turnout of 70,000 people over the course of the two-day event, with even more viewers tuning in via Livestream from across the world.
The ceremony will be brightly lit by a star-studded roster of artists and presenters under this year’s tagline, “We Are K-pop.” On Wednesday, March 5th, 2022, J-Hope of BTS will be performing as a solo act at the Mama Awards.
CJ ENM claims that the performer added his own ideas and flair to the show. Through a performance centred on his box of alter egos and the emotions and experiences contained within it, J-Hope will offer the message, “I am your hope.”
The event’s organisers promised in a news release issued on Monday that “hope,” like his name, would be permanently etched in the hearts of the audience members who saw his performance. The awards presentation will feature a historic number of performances by performers from different generations working together, such as a duet by the five most successful rookie girl groups.
According to a statement released by CJ ENM on Monday, Ive, Kep1er, NMIXX, Le Sserafim, and NewJeans will all perform on the same stage. On Tuesday, the 32 of them will break out into different groups to perform an exclusive rendition of each of the act’s debut songs.
K-pop group (G)I-DLE and rock band Jaurim are working on a never-before-seen collaboration, while a similar project combining Stray Kids’ production team 3Racha, music director Jung Jae-il of Oscar winner “Parasite,” and iconic hip-hop artist Tiger JK is in the works as well.
There will also be performances from Kara, Hyolyn, Forestella, Bibi, Zico, Lim Young-woong, NiziU, INI, and the teams from Mnet’s hit dance competition “Street Man Fighter.” Actors Hwang Jung-min and Jung Woo-sung, figure skating icon Kim Yuna, golfing superstar Pak Se-ri, and short track speedskater Kwak Yoon-gy will all be among the presenters.

On day one, the show will be hosted by K-pop star Jeon Somi, and on day two, actor Park Bo-gum will be in charge. The event has been rebranded as the Mama Awards for the first time this year. To better reflect its ambition to expand the event’s reach beyond Asia, CJ ENM announced in August that the Mnet Asian Music Awards would be rebranded as the Mama Awards.
Originally known as the Mnet Video Music Awards, the Mama Awards were South Korea’s first video music awards ceremony in 1999. They were rebranded as the Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2009.
Over the years, it has expanded to become the largest music awards show in Asia, with annual ceremonies in Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong. On both days, the festivities will begin with a red carpet event at 4 p.m., Korean time, with the main ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. This event will be broadcast live on Mnet TV in South Korea and online via many Mnet YouTube channels.
