What do most people think of when they hear the word “Kraken”? If you know at least a little bit about the legendary sea creature, you probably have some pretty scary images in your head. Some movies that come to mind are Clash of the Titans (1981), in which Zeus (Laurence Olivier) tells the monster to attack the Greek world, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006), in which Davy Jones uses the tentacled creature to drag his enemies down to the ocean floor. With such a long history in folklore and legend, it’s not surprising that the Kraken has become such a well-known bad guy in many stories.
Watch The Trailer For Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
On March 16, 2023, Universal Pictures released the first video for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. The clip starts with a monologue from Ruby’s grandmother, played by Jane Fonda, in which she says that the myths and legends about the infamous Kraken are way overblown. They’re not violent beasts that hunt for ships to attack. Instead, they’re not that different from the average person. This is shown by Ruby, a young girl who acts like a normal teenager even though her whole body is blue. This suggests that this world may follow the rules of Invader Zim (2001–2006), where aliens pose as school kids.
