Gold Medalist’s partnership with actress Seo Ye Ji has ended. After four years, the management label’s exclusive contract with Seo Ye Ji will conclude on November 30, 2023. The most recent drama that Seo Ye Ji was in was “Eve,” which ran on tvN from June to July 2022. Claims that the actress had gaslighted and manipulated her ex-boyfriend, Kim Jung Hyun, set off a series of scandals that rocked the actress in 2021.
Why Did Seo Ye-ji’s Popularity Soar After “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay”?
Next, she co-starred with Kim Jung-hyun in 2018’s Stay With Me, the first 4DX VR film in the world. She co-starred with Lee Joon-gi as a lawyer with explosive temper in the 2018 tvN drama Lawless Lawyer. One of the highest-rated Korean dramas ever on cable, the show also became a commercial success. In recognition of her service, the National Police Agency appointed Seo to the position of honorary police officer.
You might recognize her from her 2019 roles in By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture and Warning: Do Not Play. Seo’s new management company made its debut with the 2020 romantic comedy It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, which aired on tvN and Netflix. Featuring alongside Kim Soo-hyun, she played the part of a famous children’s book author with a disorder of personality.

The series was named one of “The Best International Shows of 2020” and Seo’s performance was described as “mesmerizing” by The New York Times, while the Manila Bulletin and The Hindu praised her portrayal of the character. Also receiving a lot of attention from the media in Korea and around the world, Seo’s popularity skyrocketed.

What Were the Allegations Against Seo Ye-ji Regarding Kim Jung-hyun’s Departure?
Allegations surfaced in April 2021 that Seo was responsible for Kim Jung-hyun’s actions and subsequent departure from the show following a press conference for The Time in 2018. Tabloid Dispatch of South Korea published purported text messages between Kim Jung-hyun and Seo on April 12. The messages allegedly showed Seo telling Kim not to have physical contact with any of the female actors in the drama The Time. It is said that she advised him to have the scenes involving romance removed from the script. He eventually left during production, stating that he had trouble sleeping and eating.
Gold Medalist, Seo’s agency, responded by denying that their client was to blame for Kim’s actions and sudden departure from the show. They stated that “it is unreasonable to assume that a lead actor would make a decision that would jeopardize his career without free will” and mentioned that they “confirmed” this with Kim Jung-hyun. What the agency called their “very misleading” and “merely jealous quarrels about shooting scenes” messages were actually just that. In the wake of these claims, Seo abruptly pulled out of the filming of the Korean drama Island. The production claims that her character will be rewritten and recast.
