At some point, he enrolled at Chute Boxe Academy and began training with Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, who ultimately helped him get his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Both of his professional boxing bouts ended in knockout victories. In addition to making cameos in a number of films, he also stars in the Netflix reality show “Ultimate Beastmaster.” The film “Like Water” is based on his life. The name “The Spider” stems from his admiration of Spider-Man in comics.

Due to his victory over the Japanese competitor, he was invited to compete in the Pride Fighting Championships, a Japanese organization. Whilst with Pride, Silva defeated opponents such as Carlos Newton and Alex Stiebling. After a catastrophic loss to Daiju Takase, though, Silva almost gave up MMA altogether.

Silva signed with Cage Rage after his victory over Jeremy Horn. While competing for Pride, Silva won his final encounter against Lee Murray in Cage Rage. After losing to Ryo Chonan, Pride decided to let him go. He had previously beaten Tony Fryklund before being disqualified from his victory over Yushin Okami for kicking a helpless opponent.

UFC Career

Anderson Silva has been a UFC fighter since 2006. After only 49 seconds of the first round, he scored a shocking knockout victory over Chris Leben. After that, he easily dispatched Rich Franklin to claim the middleweight belt. Silva moved up to light heavyweight and defeated James Irvin after successfully defending his title against the likes of Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson.

After Anderson Silva’s 2008 fight with Patrick Côté, he had a series of losses in a row. But the fact that Silva won without ever touching his opponent infuriated the spectators. He did the same thing to Thales Leites, much to the displeasure of the audience and of Dana White. In 2009, Silva’s victory over Forrest Griffin was deemed the “Knockout of the Night” winner.

Anderson Silva once again brought shame to the UFC in 2010 by mocking his opponent and avoiding a fight by circling the Octagon. Despite his eventual victory, Demian Maia, his opponent, began to get support from the crowd once he actually tried to fight. Later that same year, Silva faced a much tougher opponent in Chael Sonnen, who knocked Silva out with a barrage of blows.

Thankfully, Silva was able to submit his opponent and win the match. Two of Silva’s future opponents, Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort, both fell by his hands. He was undefeated for the entirety of 2012, however, his loss against Chris Weidman ruined his legend status. When Silva began to show arrogance again in the second round, the underdog was able to knock him out and win the fight.

After Weidman blocked the Brazilian’s leg kick to end their rematch, the latter sustained serious fractures to his left leg. Healing from those wounds would take a long time and require extensive medical attention. Silva won his return fight to the UFC in 2015, however, he was later disqualified following adverse drug tests.

After serving his suspension for this offense, Silva faced Michael Bisping in 2016. All of the judges ruled against him. He lost again in 2016, this time to Daniel Cormier, but he turned things around the following year, beating Derek Brunson.

The 2019 defeats Silva sustained at the hands of Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier effectively ended his MMA career. As of early 2019, Anderson Silva’s fights have generated nearly 10 million PPV purchases.

The vast majority of his punches land where they’re intended. As an added bonus, he moves fluidly and is equally effective from both the orthodox and southpaw stances. Although Silva is more widely recognized for his striking prowess than his ground game, he has nonetheless managed to submit some of the UFC’s best wrestlers.

Anderson Silva Personal Life

Anderson Silva and his partner have five children. That year (2019), he qualified for citizenship in the United States. Silva has stated that his close friend B.J. Penn deserves to be recognized as the best fighter in UFC history “pound for pound.” Another of Anderson Silva’s many passions is comic books.
