Fans will once again be transported inside the animated League of Legends universe by Netflix’s Arcane in Season 2. The initial batch of episodes, which told a compelling story of two sisters in a gorgeously drawn and fashionable package, was a huge success for the streaming giant.
Because Season 1 received almost overwhelming praise and has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix has already begun production on Season 2. Arcane lovers should rest easy knowing that more updates are coming even though there haven’t been many for the second season.
When and How Was Arcane Season 2’s Confirmation Announced?
Just three weeks after season 1’s debut, on November 21, 2021, the League of Legends YouTube channel announced Arcane’s continuation into season 2. This was not unexpected given the show’s phenomenal success, which saw it rank in the top 10 on Netflix in 52 countries.
The wait for Arcane season 2 is nonetheless also explained by the time of this announcement. Arcane Season 2 was postponed, according to Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent, who revealed this in an interview in April 2023 during which he also provided an update on the situation.
According to him, “We didn’t know if season 1 was going to be a success…if I’d known, we could have started season 2 way earlier.”

However, Laurent provided another explanation for the delay in the same interview, one that raises hopes for Arcane’s future quality as it moves into season 2: “You want the quality; we just don’t want to rush, and so that takes time.”
It’s encouraging to see that the Arcane team is not interested in hurriedly releasing a fresh, incomplete season to satisfy the sudden demand. The makers of Arcane are accustomed to perseverance because the first season took six years to produce.

Arcane Season 2 Release Date
Arcane Season 2 hasn’t received an official release date, however, a timeframe has been suggested. The League of Legends parent firm Tencent revealed during a video conference in September 2023 that the popular cartoon series would arrive on Netflix sometime in “Q4 2024” (i.e., October to December 2024) for viewers to enjoy.
In the past, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent said that “it’s unfortunately not going to be [in 2023]” because the group works for “quality:”
“So, I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It is not ready yet, and there are two reasons for that. One, you want the quality. We just do not want to rush, and that takes time. So that’s a good reason.”
The Season 2 scripts were finished in 2022, according to co-showrunner Christian Linke, who added that “some amount of tweaks” would also take place throughout the production process in a Reddit AMA.
“Though there’s always some amount of tweaks that happen in the process. Seeing story boards & hearing voices for the first time makes you realize that something doesn’t quite click, or there’s new opportunities you didn’t recognize before.”
Laurent assured fans that Season 2 wouldn’t require nearly as much time as Season 1, which was finished in about six years. The release date of Q4 2024 does make a lot of sense when taking into account a somewhat shortened production schedule for the second season.

Arcane Season 2 Cast: Who is in It?
For Arcane Season 2, just three actors have been confirmed. According to the Season 2 announcement trailer, Ella Purnell will play Jinx, Hailee Steinfeld will play Vi, and Katie Leung will play Caitlyn Kiramman.
Kevin Alejandro (Jayce Talis), Toks Olagundoye (Mel Medarda), Harry Lloyd (Viktor), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Mick Wingert (Cecil B. Heimerdinger), and Amirah Vann (Sevika) are more well-known actors who are anticipated to make appearances in the series.
However, depending on which characters survived the Piltover explosion that concluded the Season 1 finale, some of the announced voice actors might not return for Arcane’s second season.
Jason Spisak’s Silco is one character who passed away at the conclusion of the first season but will still make an appearance in Season 2. Despite the fact that his character was already deceased, Spisak claimed on the Izuko Unscripted podcast to have “recorded lines for Season 2”:
“Yeah, well, I’ve recorded lines for Season 2. They let me say it. Riot Games let me tell people. They said, ‘You can officially tell people that you have recorded lines for Season 2.’ So, I’m allowed to say that I have.”
Of course, the impending second batch of episodes will feature brand-new characters whose identities have not yet been revealed. League champions like Warwick, Blitzcrank, Camille, and Swain are just a few that might appear in Season 2.
What Will Happen in Arcane Season 2?
Arcane’s second season’s plot information is still sketchy, but there are a few possible ways the show could take following the Season 1 finale. It will be interesting to observe whether council members survived the attack that occurred during the Zaun independence vote after Jinx bombed the Piltover chambers.
Jayce is an important character in both the series and the League of Legends game that the series is based on, therefore it seems probable that he will emerge from the ruins relatively undamaged.
Mel and Cassandra, two Piltover councillors, may not fare as well, and their wounds and potential consequences will probably serve as inspiration for Jayce, a close friend of Mel, and Caitlyn, played by Katie Leung, who is Cassandra’s daughter, in Season 2.
If the other council members (Viktor, Hoskel, Bolbok, Shoola, and Salo) survived Jinx’s attack, it is unclear what would happen to them. If some council members were to perish as a result of the attack, this might affect whether or not the vote to maintain Zaun’s independence passes.
The council was voting on a motion to grant the undercity its own sovereignty just before the Jinx’s missile impacted the Piltover capital building, but this hostile act from across the Zaun border might change everything.
It’s possible that in Season 2, Vi (played by Hailee Steinfeld) and Caitlyn will return to Ekko’s Firelight utopia in the undercity. And even though Jinx chose to kill the evil Silco rather than kill her sister, their connection may be irreparably damaged.
Names like the scientist Singed could rise the ranks and take advantage of the Zaun’s newly introduced independence given the power vacuum left after Silco’s passing. Singed had a small role in Acrane Season 1, although some have theorized that the Shimmer-filled creature Warwick that was discovered in his lab might possibly be Vander, the father of Vi and Jinx.
Maybe in Season 2, we’ll witness how Vander’s two kids react when they learn that their father is still alive, and how they each react in a totally different way.
