The setting is a combination of Russian science fiction and the experiences of the Mundfish development team, some of whom grew up in Russia, and you’ll see echoes of these games in the aesthetic and gameplay.

The question is, what does the combination of these factors produce? All the information we have thus far on Atomic Heart is presented below. Mundfish first announced Atomic Heart in 2018, and there’s been plenty of information shared since then.

Atomic Heart Release Date

The premiere of Atomic Heart has been set for February 21st, 2023. After being announced four years ago, there have been a few hints as to when it might be released, so it’s great to finally have a solid date.

Atomic Heart was “initially intended for 2022,” according to an announcement that the game would now be released by Focus Interactive, despite the release window being determined and then confirmed as being in late 2022.

The game’s release date on Steam was recently updated from 2022 to “this Winter.” This exact date for Atomic Heart’s February release was revealed in a recent promo. Upon its debut, Atomic Heart will be available on Xbox Game Pass, and presumably PC Game Pass as well, from the get-go. You may also read Manifest Season 4 Part 2 Release Date

What Is Atomic Heart?

A parallel universe A first-person shooter set in the Soviet era, complete with murderous robots, clown-themed torture dungeons, and elderly women entrapped in molten goo. Indeed, that is a peculiar situation. Due to a lack of ammunition, the game features a hybrid style of combat that combines shooting and melee using homemade weapons.

Atomic Heart Story

The creators claim that the plot is reminiscent of an episode of Black Mirror if that show were relocated to a distorted Soviet Union of the 1930s to the 1960s.

IGN spoke with Mundfish CEO Robert Bagratuni, who said that while the USSR does exist in this reality, “a technical revolution has already taken place: robots, the Internet, holograms have already been invented… all these innovations are submerged in the atmosphere of communism, confrontation with the imperialism of the West, and all the other inherent political and social aspects of the time.”

Mass-produced robots have been used in numerous fields, including agriculture, defense, wood production, and even mundane household activities, but they are increasingly showing signs of rebellion. Your character, Major Nechaev, is a mentally ill KGB agent with the pseudonym P-3 who has been dispatched by the government to investigate a silent factory.

Upon entering, it becomes immediately obvious that everything is, to put it mildly, messed up. Traps have been erected to ensnare anyone who ventures inside, and the robots have gone haywire. Your mission is to determine what went wrong and put an end to the mayhem.

There is a love story in here somewhere, sandwiched between the murders and the insanity, but how significant it is remains to be seen. Oh, and although the story progresses in a linear fashion, there will be two possible conclusions.

Atomic Heart Will Support RTX

Nvidia released an RTX trailer for Atomic Heart in January 2021 to demonstrate the capabilities of ray tracing and DLSS. The visuals of Atomic Heart are as beautiful as ever. This brief glimpse appears to show off the museum setting from previous videos, as well as some further melee and supernatural power battles.

Despite the short availability of a tech demo, you can see its RTX and HDR in action in the video down below. The crew is pleased with the enhancements to lighting and shadows and the consistent performance.

Atomic Heart System Requirements

The recommended and minimum specifications for playing Atomic Heart can be found on the game’s Steam website. To play it, you’ll need a processor no lower than an i5 4460 / AMD FX-6300, 6 GB of RAM, and a graphics card of either a GTX 760 or an R7 260x.

A system with at least an i7 3770, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 is suggested. It’s “impossible to tell exact requirements at the time” (although it does indicate they’ll be “minimal”), so it’s possible that both of those are just placeholders for the real numbers.

Is Atomic Heart An Open-World Game?

Something is unclear. The world is “the entire Soviet Union,” a huge circle whose edges reach the Arctic in the north and the Altai Mountain in the south, and which has plains, lakes, and much more in between. The various sections of Plant 3826 will be dispersed in a random fashion. You’ll be given considerable leeway in deciding which sequence to tackle them in.

We were told by Mundfish CEO Robert Bagratuni in a 2018 interview that Atomic Heart was “planned as an open-world game,” but Bagratuni ultimately wouldn’t confirm that the entire globe was playable. He told Wccftech that he didn’t know if the world was smooth.

‘Now I can say that there will be many distinct biomes,’ he continued. Our best guess is that it will be a Metro Exodus-style maze of interconnected levels. Transport between cities is quick and easy because of the extensive rail network.
