Back To The Future: A new Back to the Future film franchise is not in the works. News of a new animated series version of Back to the Future had been circulating online not too long ago. There was enough interest in the rumor for the official Back to the Future Twitter account to respond with a disclaimer.
A GIF featuring franchise star Christopher Lloyd declaring, “It ain’t happening,” was posted online in response to the story. Fans probably wouldn’t have taken these reports seriously anyway, given the franchise’s longstanding insistence that the film franchise will never be resurrected or given another sequel.
Back to the Future 4 or a reboot of any form wouldn’t be approved without Robert Zemeckis’s blessing. Zemeckis has insisted for a long time that the series should be left alone, regardless of how much money Hollywood is willing to spend. This year, Zemeckis told the Italian magazine Bad Taste, “There will never, ever, in the most unequivocal way, be a Back to the Future 4.” It’s the end of “Back to the Future.”
An Animated Back to the Future Series Has Been Produced
Though the Back to the Future film trilogy concluded with Part III, an animated TV series has continued the brand. The series, which ran for two seasons from 1991 to 1992, picks up where the films leave off, with Doc and Marty continuing their journeys through time.
Although Dan Castellaneta and David Kaufman did the vocal work for Doc Brown in Marty, Mary Steenburgen and Tom Wilson reprised their roles as Clara Clayton Brown and Biff Tannen. Each episode, however, had live-action openers and closers featuring Christopher Lloyd as Doc.

The series has also been adapted into other forms of media. Comic novels, video games, and an amusement park ride have all been based on the franchise. There is now a theatrical musical based on the movies. In 2023, it will make its way to the Great White Way. These alternate avenues of continuation will keep the franchise alive in the absence of a new film or TV show in the same universe.
