‘Baka and Test’, also known as ‘Baka to Tesuto to Shōkanjū’ in Japan, literally translates to ‘Idiots, Tests, and Summoned Beasts’. Sometimes referred to as ‘Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts’, ‘Baka and Test’ is a light novel series authored by Kenji Inoue with illustrations done by legendary manga artist Yui Haga. The book was published by Enterbrain under their Famitsu Bunko Imprint from January 2007 to March 2015.
A total of 18 books were produced during this period with 12 of them relating to the primary narrative and the rest six adding to the original as side tales. The light book was also turned into three independent manga versions, each one differing from the other in some manner.
From April 2009 to June 2015, Kadokawa Shoten’s popular magazine ‘Shnen Ace’ published ‘Baka to Test to Shkanj’ Mosuke Mattaku and Yumeuta have produced the drawings for a total of 13 tankbon volumes to far. BookWalker currently has an English translation of this comic.
It was also published by Kadokawa Shoten, but with pictures by Koizumi in ‘Shnen Ace,’ named ‘Baka to Test to Shkanj Ja.’ There were four volumes in the series, which lasted from February 2010 to January 2014. ‘Baka to Test to Shkanj Spinout! Original writer Katsuhiko Takayama penned the original screenplay, which was developed into a total of 13 episodes and broadcast. ‘Baka to Test to Shkanj: Matsuri’, a two-part OVA, was also made during this time period. It received a lot of positive feedback, with many reviewers citing the depth of the characters and their memorable one-liners as reasons for their praise.
In Japan, the second season of Baka and Test, dubbed ‘Baka to Test to Shkanj: Ni!’ debuted on July 8 and lasted through September 30. The official summoning rules have been tweaked to keep the gaming fresh and competitive, with nine characters to choose from. Fans of the series are generally pleased with it.
There have been no formal announcements about the next season. Contrary to popular belief, there are rumours circulating online. It’s all because certain fans are unable to contain their joy about the anime’s popularity. This was an excellent series for me, and I hope it gets a third season. Even if Baka and Test is not renewed, we think the third season will come out in 2021 at the latest. As soon as we get further information, we will post it here.
