Kim Taehyung has released a new solo single titled “FRI(END)S” while serving in the military. On March 18, V premiered the song live for the first time, thanks to W Korea. He wowed fans all around the world with his vocals and eye-catching images.
V and his crew wasted little time promoting the new song, even though they were engrossed in military activities. In the live performance video, V chose a spare, office-based backdrop to showcase his vocals, opting for a minimalist approach.
There have been both positive and negative responses to V’s return. Expectations were high for V’s solo effort because of his status as a prominent figure in the K-pop industry. Even though he released a new song, talk about his Instagram profile photo change—which appeared to be timed with fellow star Jennie—took precedence.
The rapid demise of ‘FRI(END)S’ from all Korean music charts—including MelOn, Bugs, Flo, and Genie—raised eyebrows about V’s influence on domestic charts. V has been here before, when promoting his solo first album Layover, he faced comparable obstacles.
A lot of people think that V’s preference for jazz-influenced music and English-language songs is to blame for these unsatisfactory results because they don’t reflect popular Korean tastes.

Despite the difficulties they encountered in Korea, ‘FRI(END)S’ achieved incredible success on a global scale. On its first day of release, it debuted at #7 on Spotify Global and has since topped the iTunes charts in an amazing 87 nations and territories.
The music video that went along with it also became a viral sensation, with 12 million views in the first three days after it was released. For more updates, you can join us on our Twitter account.
