Byun Yo Han And Shin Hye Sun Dive Into Dark Themes In ‘Following’
The much-anticipated thriller “Following” was screened for the media on April 29 at Seoul’s CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall.
Prominent cast members Shin Hye-sun and Byun Yo-han attended the event, which was directed by Kim Se-hwi as well. With a premiere date of May 15, “Following” tells the tale of Byun Yo-han’s character, Gu Jeong-tae, a real estate agent with an odd pastime of spying.
The suspense develops when Gu learns of the death of Shin Hye-sun’s character, Han So-ra, an SNS influencer he was keeping an eye on. In an attempt to absolve himself of a murder charge, Gu explores the enigmatic circumstances surrounding her death as the movie progresses.
Byun Yo-han gave insights into his character Jeong-tae during the press conference, describing him as unlikeable and exploiting his work to grab his interest by violating people’s privacy. As the movie goes on, Byun believes that viewers will come to despise Jeong-tae even more.
He discussed how he approached the part, focusing on how the character seems normal despite his shady actions, which meant that in order to keep the portrayal credible, he had to play it down.
When talking about her part as Han So-ra, Shin Hye-sun said that she found it impossible to emotionally connect with the character and that it was disgusting. She acknowledged the difficulties of playing a character that is both so distinct and so morally ambiguous.
Director Kim Se-hwi talked about picking unusual main characters for the movie and how it could be risky. He wants the movie to make people think about how social media affects us, like how we seek attention and watch others. He hopes viewers won’t go as far as the characters in the movie.
With its debut, “Following” is expected to engage viewers by providing an intriguing glimpse into the darker side of human curiosity and the effects of social media on personal boundaries.
