Despite the fact that most anime shows are based on manga or light novels, anime originals are just as popular, with smash hits like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Code Geass.
While Carole and Tuesday did not achieve the same level of popularity as its predecessor, its initial premiere did attract a large audience due to its unique world in a futuristic setting and its likable female protagonists.
In addition to focusing on the wholesome friendship between its main characters, this drama-sci-fi series also pays tribute to music. Carole & Tuesday, a delightful musical story that entwines every character through music and song, reveals the wonder of music for many. This is a story of friendship built around a shared passion and dream.
Carole and Tuesday’s Plot
The Carole & Tuesday series is directed by Cowboy Bebop’s Shinichiro Watanabe and is set in the future where humans have begun migrating to terraformed Mars where A.I. technology allows them to find new comforts. This show follows Carole, a 17-year-old orphan who works several part-time jobs to make ends meet, as well as Tuesday, a 17-year-old isolated rich girl who runs away from home.
Carole is outgoing and confident, whereas Tuesday is dainty and reticent. Despite the vast differences between them, they have both turned to music for solace, and an accidental encounter soon shows them sharing a passion for it.
To express themselves through the music they, therefore, decide to combine their talents and form a duo. On the other hand, Carole and Tuesday are at a disadvantage because they rely on traditional methods of music while the music industry on Mars uses A.I.s to create best-selling songs.
Furthermore, the world of Mars isn’t entirely rosy. Earth is believed to be uninhabitable, which necessitates many people to immigrate to an alien world with drastically different living conditions.
Refugees have been created on Earth due to the trauma, while the problems on Mars (e.g. racism and limited job opportunities) cause unrest. In an unforgiving world, the struggles of Carole and Tuesday are directly impacted by these issues.
How to Watch The Carole & Tuesday Anime Online
From April to October 2019, Bones Studio produced Carole & Tuesday’s 24-episode in Japan, while Netflix released the first half in August and the second half in December in the U.S.
Some countries, including Canada and the UK, offer the series on Netflix. Second-hand sites such as eBay are a good place to seek out physical copies of the DVD and Blu-ray. Carole & Tuesday would be incomplete without a mention of its soundtrack. Several audio streaming platforms, such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube, offer the full OST and soundtrack.
Here is Where You Can Read Carole and Tuesday’s Manga
In the case of Carole & Tuesday, the manga adaptation came after the anime series. Featuring illustrations by Morito Yamataka, Young Ace Magazine released three volumes from May 2019 to July 2020. A license was acquired by Yen Press to publish the manga in English in 2020.
Despite skipping a few plot points, the manga adaptation largely follows the original anime, and it still captures the memorable friendship between Carole and Tuesday. Book Walker offers all three manga volumes in digital form, and Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and other local retailers offer physical copies.
