“Chim Chak Man” Lee Mal Nyeon Backs Min Hee Jin And NewJeans in Public Petition
On his personal livestream on May 26, webtoon artist and YouTuber Lee Byung Geon confirmed that he filed a petition in support of ADOR’s CEO, Min Hee Jin. Lee is more commonly known by his webtoon alias “Lee Mal Nyeon” and his YouTube alias “Chim Chak Man” (which translates to “Calm Man”).
There was initial confusion regarding the petition because the name was misspelled as “Lee Byeong Gyeon.” Lee clarified that submitting a photocopy of one’s identity card is required with the petition, making identity misappropriation unlikely. Despite the misspelling, he assured his viewers that it was indeed him who filed the petition.
When asked why he decided to file the petition, Lee explained that he learned about the trial and the petition’s purpose through an acquaintance. Although he is not well-versed in the HYBE vs. ADOR situation, he did not want CEO Min to be dismissed. He expressed admiration for the synergy between Min Hee Jin and the girl group NewJeans, stating that their collaboration was impressive.
In his petition, Lee Mal Nyeon expressed his support for CEO Min Hee Jin, detailing his reasons for opposing her dismissal. He wrote about observing her passion and pride in her work, as well as the strong camaraderie she shares with the NewJeans members and their parents, which he believes reflects the excellent care the members receive.
Addressing malicious speculations that he signed the petition to curry favor with CEO Min, Lee clarified that he generally avoids situations that cause a big fuss and did not see the need to justify signing a petition. He was puzzled by the public’s intense reaction but acknowledged that being a public figure comes with the responsibility of accounting for one’s actions.
Lee also addressed disappointed fans, asking those who were upset over his petition to stop being his fans. He explained that if this issue caused disappointment, it indicated a fundamental mismatch in values. He reiterated his request for fans to cease demanding explanations over something he considers not of grave concern.
Meanwhile, ADOR’s board of directors is scheduled to hold a general shareholders’ meeting on May 31 to decide on the potential dismissal of CEO Min. HYBE is planning to replace three current ADOR board members with newly appointed ones.
