A recent exclusive interview with Choi Mujin, a hairstylist, was published in Harper’s Bazaar Korea. The discussion delves into Choi’s work with BTS’ V for the magazine’s February 2024 issue. The long, silver-blue hair and enticing image of V in the magazine have made a lasting effect on fans.
Choi Mujin, the mastermind behind this unique hairdo, spilled the beans in an interview, revealing the inner workings of the transformation that left fans wondering for a few months.
The hairstylist revealed the painstaking steps used to make the star’s custom wig almost three months after the magazine’s publication. The goal of this endeavor was to make sure that the distinctive look of the BTS’s second maknae will be noticeable and in line with their project vision.
Choi Mujin’s Mastery in Transforming V of BTS into a Blue Hairstyle
Fans all over the world were taken aback by a previously unseen side of BTS member V in the last photo shoot before he enlisted in the military. V appeared in the photos with long blue hair and a shirtless body, like a typical anime character. The intricate effort that went into producing this unique design was mostly unknown, even though admirers loved it.
Harpers Bazaar Korea interviewed the hairstylist who created this striking look on January 30, 2024, and the article went into detail about the process. Famed hairstylist Choi Mujin has long been an integral part of BTS, especially with V, and has been responsible for some of the members’ most recognizable looks.
He has been instrumental in helping V achieve some of his most iconic looks over the past couple of years with his creative expertise.
Choi Mujin recently discussed the fascinating styling of BTS member V’s iconic blue hair in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Korea. V graces the cover of the magazine in February. In an effort to give the ARMY faithful a new look, the dramatic makeover was the result of a combination of artistic skill and careful preparation.
Mujin broke down the meaning of the signature blue hue, indicating that it complemented the Bazaar pictorial’s overarching plot, style, and theme. He came up with an idea for a sketch inspired by the setting of the iconic LGBTQ film Call Me by Your Name. Mujin used a “pale blue” with European sensibilities, which is similar to watercolor, to create the mood he wanted.
V and his hairstylist both picked elements from LGBTQ culture for the photo shoot, which fans thought was a nice touch.

Q. Why did you pick this color?
“After checking the overall story, design, and concept of the pictorial planned by Bazaar Korea in advance, the mise-en-scène of “Call Me by Your Name and the “Warmest color is blue” came to… pic.twitter.com/yZqozr9696

The day before the shoot, the wig was carefully fitted for the shot. Then, a shiny gold wig was cut and dyed in sequence utilizing CURLYSHYLL’s latest chromage dyes, MA7 and MA10. Once the color was fine-tuned, the pictorial was shot the next day.
The process of transforming V’s lengthy hair required meticulous attention to detail. Mujin wanted V to look natural and relaxed while still highlighting his clear facial features, so he added color despite worries that it would make him look flashy.
On-site, we made a small modification to the length for each outfit change, a total of six or seven cuts. In praising the BTS member for revealing yet another side of her charisma via this one-of-a-kind experiment, Mujin singled out the original long-haired look.
The dedicated effort that Mujin put into giving V the “perfect look” was greatly appreciated by fans:
Love the creativity and the willingness Tae has to try new things! Grateful for Mujin who supports and helps bring the creativity to life.

When trying to replicate Taehyung’s lengthy hairdo, Mujin advised taking the shape and size of the head into account. It may be helpful to avoid long hairstyles that accentuate a large head or pronounced temples in order to keep the look balanced.
In addition, Mujin gave helpful advice on how to imitate the BTS member’s signature “cover” style. His recommendation for a natural covering style was SAVWA Professional Texturizer, and for an appearance that mimics wet hair without the stickiness or stiffness, he suggested Saab and Animator.
