Kim Go Eun Portrayed Korean Shamas Meticulously in ‘Exhuma’
“Exhuma,” Jang Jae-hyun’s occult film, stars Kim Go-eun of South Korea, who stated her goal was to give a flawless performance as a traditional Korean shaman. The Korean occult mystery film industry owes a great deal to Jang, whose works include the critically acclaimed “The Priest” and “Svaha: The Sixth Finger.”
The events of “Exhuma” take place during the relocation of a tomb by a congregation of exorcists, an undertaker, and a feng shui expert. In the film, Kim portrays the character of Hwa-rim, a youthful shaman who is tasked with performing “gut,” a traditional Korean herbal remedy.
A “daesal gut,” a shaman rite involving animal sacrifice to drive evil spirits away, was Kim’s recent standout performance in “Exhuma.”
