After “The Astronaut” was released and all of its promotional efforts were finished by the end of October 2022, Big Hit stated that Jin would start the enlisting procedure and do his mandatory military service. After changes were made to the Military Service Act in December 2020, the singer was already granted an automatic deferment until the end of 2022.

Jin requested the termination of the deferral and the ability to proceed with his conscription by filing documentation with the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) on November 4, 2022. At the Yeoncheon army post in North Gyeonggi Province, he became an active-duty soldier on December 13. Jin will be at home in June 2024.
