“Closer Than This,” Jimin’s new solo single, debuted the day before its release, and by Saturday had topped the iTunes Top Song charts in 90 countries worldwide.
Jimin, who joined the military earlier this month, dropped a new fan song titled “Closer Than This” on December 22 at 2 p.m. KST. It didn’t take long for the song to reach number one on iTunes charts in a number of different countries after its release. With at least 90 regions having already had “Closer Than This” reach No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts by 8 a.m. KST on December 23, the song had already gone viral.

At 3 p.m. KST on December 22, “Closer Than This” also made its debut at No. 1 on Bugs’ realtime chart. The title track and pre-release single from Jimin’s solo debut album “FACE,” “Set Me Free Pt.2,” and the previous hit “Like Crazy” both re-entered the chart at 4 p.m. KST, nine months after their initial release in March.
On December 12, Jimin fulfilled his obligatory military service by enrolling in the Korean military. A minimum of 18 months of military service is mandatory for all able-bodied men in South Korea.
