K-pop Star BTS Member Jin Will Begin Military Service on December 13th

Jin will begin military service: SEOUL South Korean news outlet Aju Business Daily claimed on Thursday that anonymous military officials confirmed that Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop band BTS, will report for required military service on December 13.

After only five weeks of training at the boot camp, Jin, who turns 30 on December 4th, will be sent out to a unit. The South Korean Ministry of Defense and BTS’s management agency HYBE both declined to comment.

Just last week, Jin posted on social media, “front-line” employment was in his future. It wasn’t until October that the group finally committed to serving in the military, beginning with Jin, after years of debate.

HYBE stated at the time that the group intended to pursue separate projects before reuniting in 2025 when everyone had completed their military service. Everyone in South Korea who is a man between the ages of 18 and 28 is required to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months.

Olympic and Asian Games medalists, as well as the champions of specific classical music and dance competitions, are among the groups that have been granted exemptions from military service or reduced terms of service.

Some legislators had argued for an exemption for BTS. According to South Korea’s defence minister, BTS might continue to tour internationally even if they enlist in the military.
