Gatto is of Italian ancestry and was born on  Staten Island. Gatto went to high school at Monsignor Farrell. He was a fellow member of the Improvisation Club at his high school, along with Murray, Vulcano, and Quinn.

To further his education, he went to LIU Post and graduated with a degree in accounting. Gatto’s father died of alcoholism in 1995, which is a significant event in Gatto’s life.
