The director Martin Scorsese is most frequently linked to gangster and wise guy movies from the past. However, the director is branching into a new genre with his upcoming Western Killers of the Flower Moon.
The film, an adaptation of the nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and The Birth of the FBI by journalist David Grann, depicts the tale of at least twenty Osage Tribal members who were murdered in Oklahoma in the 1920s.
Grann’s book’s film rights were sold in 2016, a year before it was even released, but the eagerly awaited film’s production didn’t start until 2021. Martin Scorsese was hired after some directors indicated an interest in the undertaking without formally committing.

Although it barely started in 2002, Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s partnership is more recent but no less prestigious. After collaborating for the first time on Gangs of New York in 2002, the filmmaker and actor will work together again for Killers of the Flower Moon.

DiCaprio received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for their second collaboration, The Aviator. Scorsese received his only nomination for Best Director for The Departed in 2006. In the movie Killers of the Flower Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, Hale’s nephew, who battles with his devotion to his influential uncle and his Osage bride (Lily Gladstone).
Jesse Plemons plays FBI agent Tom White in the film as well. Beginning with his part as Chuckie O’Brien in The Irishman, a prior project with Scorsese, and most recently with his Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, Plemons’ career has been on the rise in recent years.
Brendan Fraser is currently playing the lawyer W.S., continuing his stunning acting comeback. Hamilton. As the prosecutor Leaward who attempts to convict Hale of murder, John Lithgow also stars.

Killers of the Flower Moon Plot
The plot to murder approximately sixty members of the Osage tribe between 1921 and 1925 is detailed in the book Killers of the Flower Moon. The Osage Indian Tribe of Oklahoma received the right to benefit from the vast oil riches that were found in the area toward the end of the 19th century.
The Osage nation was regarded as one of the richest nations in the world due to the tens of millions of dollars that the Osage people generated on their own. When the body of a wealthy Osage woman was discovered in the woods in 1921, these negative emotions quickly escalated into acts of violence. At least sixty affluent Osage tribe members had passed away by 1925. Agent Tom White of the FBI, who oversaw the inquiry, discovered a sophisticated scheme by local cattleman William Hale to seize control of the Osage oil.

In order to strengthen his claim to the land, Hale even persuaded his nephew Ernest Burkhart to wed Mollie Kile, an Osage native. It’s pretty safe to assume that Scorsese will turn this tale of racism, murder, betrayal, and money into a dark and intriguing movie.
