It was back in December 2015 that we were initially captivated by the Magicians, and we have been under their spell ever since.
Unfortunately for the series’ die-hard fans, Syfy has chosen to discontinue it after five seasons, which will take place in April 2020.
“It played out very much the same way it does practically every season,” co-creator John McNamara said in an interview with TVInsider.
“Apart from season four and season five, we were never sure whether we’d be renewed or if the show would be cancelled. It was always a talk about the finances – never really about the creative – and you always know that with any programme, there’s this sort of tight line between what it comes in and what it costs to produce it.
Sera Gamble, one of the show’s co-creators, stated: “And as the show’s creators, we get what you’re saying. When we started this season, we had a feeling that Syfy, in especially as our initial platform, was reaching a point where it was like, ‘The cup is full, and there’s no more space.'”
In addition, McNamara said that “it is not necessarily going to increase in terms of revenue, and it is not necessarily going to decline in terms of revenue,” but “it is going to cost more.”
So, is it possible that The Magicians will be salvaged by another network or streaming platform?
What Time Will Magicians Season 6 Premiere On Television?
A streaming service like as Netflix had been expected to rescue The Magicians from cancellation, but 18 months after Syfy cancelled the show, there is still no positive news, and it is becoming more improbable that the magical series would be revived.
During the cancelling process, Syfy issued a statement that seemed rather conclusive:
It has been five amazing seasons since “The Magicians” became a member of the Syfy family, according to the network, which released a statement (via Variety). “As we reach the conclusion of our adventure, we would like to express our gratitude to John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and the rest of our wonderful cast, crew, writers, and directors for their magnificent work. But most of all, we want to express our gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and enthusiasm. Magic will always have a place in our hearts as a result of your efforts.”
What Will The Narrative of Magicians Season 6 Be About Is Still Unknown?
As a result of the death of Jason Ralph’s main character in season four, the programme was forced to explore completely new ground.
Sera Gamble, executive producer of the programme, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on the influence of his death on the show’s future: “It has had a significant impact on the show’s future.” “It is not the case that Quentin’s tale has come to an end on The Magicians. Jason Ralph has been fired as a series regular from the programme, and Quentin Coldwater has died on the show; the tale continuing forward is about what happened as a result of this…
“Jason has left the show, and Quentin is dead, and a lot of season five is about what happens next, much like when someone dies in our lives, the following season of our lives is about what occurs.” “Jason has left the show, and Quentin is dead, and a lot of season five is about what happens next.”
Given that Syfy has very well exhausted the possibilities for narratives to be adapted from the books, the source material is no longer relevant for forecasting what would have happened in subsequent seasons.
Who Will Be A Part Of The Magicians Season 6 Cast?
If the programme were to – miraculously – come back, it is hoped that all of the key cast members will, as well, which includes:
• Stella Maeve as Julia Wicker
• Olivia Taylor Dudley as Alice Quinn
• Hale Appleman as Eliot Waugh
• Arjun Gupta as William “Penny” Adiyodi
• Summer Bishil as Margo Hanson
• Rick Worthy as Henry Fogg
• Jade Tailor as Kady Orloff-Diaz
• Brittany Curran as Fen
• Trevor Einhorn as Josh Hoberman
In recent years, many of the actors have moved on to new projects, such as Stella Maeve, who is currently pre-production on a new drama about the female devotees of cult leader Charles Manson; Rick Worthy, who is currently starring in Station 19; and Brittany Curran, who is currently starring in the science fiction television series FraXtur.
In 2019, Stella Maeve was asked about her favourite memories from the series’ production, and she responded positively (via Showbiz Junkies).
“I can’t think of a single one that is my all-time favourite. The fact that Jason (Ralph, who portrayed Quentin) was able to make me chuckle is a certain way to get my attention. You know, in season one, he managed to persuade me that he was really wearing a wig the whole time. We’re in the middle of filming the last episode of the season, and I walked over to touch it. He used a method where he moved his hair around a lot. Do you know when you have the ability to move your skin? And I thought to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s a wig.’ And it wasn’t the case. That was a life-changing experience for me. I realised to myself, ‘Wait a minute, everything I thought I understood, I didn’t’.”
