IU Singer
Popular South Korean singer Lee Ji-Eun goes by the stage name IU. After joining LOEN Entertainment (now Kakao Entertainment) in 2007 as a trainee, her debut release was the EP Lost and Found.
At age fifteen, she debuted as a singer (2008). Later albums like Growing Up and IU…IM did well, but it wasn’t until the 2010 release of the album’s first hit, “Good Day,” that she became a household celebrity.

For five consecutive weeks, “Good Day” was the most popular digital track in South Korea, and in 2019, Billboard ranked it the best K-pop song of the 2010s. In 2011, with the release of Real+ and Last Fantasy, IU lost her girl-next-door image, for which she had been dubbed the “little sister” of Korea, and established herself as a big player on the Korean music charts.
In 2011, she penned her debut song, “Hold My Hand,” for the television drama The Greatest Love. There was a clear shift in IU’s musical direction with the release of her third studio album, Modern Times (2013), which had several tracks that debuted in the top ten on the Gaon Digital Chart.
