Internet users in many countries have been calling for a boycott of McDonald’s recently over the chain’s contentious partnership with NewJeans. McDonald’s has teamed up with NewJeans for a special promotion in 10 different areas around Asia, building on the chain’s reputation for limited-time celebrity dinners showcasing popular artists and influencers. Merchandise like stickers and photocards of NewJeans members, as well as designs and standees, were all part of the cooperation.
While the collaboration was met with excitement by many fans at first, it has since drawn criticism from some quarters online for an entirely different cause. The dispute started when McDonald’s gave out complimentary lunches to Israeli troops after the October 7 Hamas strike. More people are becoming aware of the problem in the Gaza Strip as a result of increased media coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict, which has led to a worldwide uproar concerning human rights violations.
Bombings and other types of violence have reportedly claimed hundreds of lives in the region, leaving survivors to mourn the deaths of loved ones and the destruction of their homes and communities. According to the most current count, almost 10,000 Palestinians have already lost their lives in this war.

McDonald’s has not helped the people of Gaza despite rising awareness of the problem. Concerns regarding the company’s allegiances have been raised after some consumers noticed blue and white packaging evocative of the Israeli flag.
As a result, calls for a McDonald’s boycott can be heard all around the world, but especially in the USA and Malaysia. As a form of protest against what they see as NewJeans’ apathy to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, they are pushing individuals to reject the urge to participate in the current NewJeans partnership.
