NewJeans and their Bunnies fan group are celebrating a significant accomplishment. After just 219 days, the K-pop group, which comprises of members Minji, Danielle, Hanni, Hyein, and Haerin, has officially broken the record for the fastest K-pop act (solo male, solo female, or group) to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The accomplishment was accomplished less than a year after NewJeans’ official launch in July 2022. Six tracks by the K-pop performers are currently available on Spotify: “Attention,” “Hurt,” “Hype Boy,” “Cookie,” “Zero,” “Ditto,” and “OMG.” The last two of these songs reached Nos. 82 and 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 all-genre chart, respectively. With over 320 million listens, “OMG” is the girl group’s most-streamed song on the service.
Beginning on October 26, 2022, NewJeans will take over from BLACKPINK’s Lisa, who previously held the mark among all K-pop performers with a record of 411 days. This is according to Guinness World Records. (On March 27, BTS’ Jung Kook broke the record for a solo artist in 409 days.)
NewJeans are preparing for a comeback this summer, which means new music for fans to enjoy, in addition to a performance at Lollapalooza this summer, which will make the quintet the first K-pop group to perform at the music festival after BTS member J-Hope’s solo performance at last year’s fest.

“It was yesterday that they finished recording for the new album scheduled to be released this summer,” Min Hee Jin, executive producer/CEO of NewJeans’ label ADOR, told Billboard in early April. “I wanted to break the stereotype that only certain styles of music would be able to succeed in the so-called mainstream industry. In the albums in the future, NewJeans will continue to strive to present something new and unique to exceed the expectations of their fans. NewJeans members keep growing and growing, and we can’t wait to surprise the world again.”
