Nikki Finke Cause Of Death: Nikki Finke, a veteran journalist who founded the entertainment trade website Deadline.com and whose caustic tongue and dogged persistence made her the most feared writer in Hollywood, has passed away. To put her age in perspective, she was 68. As reported by Deadline, Finke passed away on Sunday in Boca Raton, Florida, following a protracted illness.

Finke, a notoriously private blogger, made LA Weekly’s “Deadline Hollywood” column a must-read for industry news and gossip when he started penning it in 2002. Deadline Hollywood Daily, a news website she created, debuted four years later. Finke’s “live-snarking” award shows and story updates that screamed “TOLDJA!” when one of her earlier exclusives proved accurate helped her build a brash media empire based on scoops and gossip she blogged about on Deadline.com.

Finke made many enemies in Hollywood with her blunt approach. The Long Islander’s significant influence among executives, agents, and publicists was demonstrated by the steady drumbeat of exclusives she received. She was named one of “the world’s most powerful women” by Forbes magazine in 2010. Finke was unrepentant and didn’t change her style, even for the most famous actors and influential studio heads.

And they play tough,” Finke told The New York Times in 2015. I’m in the same boat. Instead of making connections at events like red carpet premieres and cocktail parties, Finke primarily accomplished her goals without leaving her west Los Angeles apartment. Finke, however, harshly criticized CEOs whose decisions she disagreed with from her isolated perch.

A former president of NBC Universal, she famously referred to Jeff Zucker as “one of the most kiss-ass incompetents to lead an entertainment firm.” I can’t help myself! In 2009, Finke revealed this to The New Yorker. “It’s like cruelty just flows from my fingertips!” In 2009, Jay Penske bought Deadline Hollywood for his company, Penske Media Corporation, which also eventually bought Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

After Penske purchased the Deadline rivals, Finke and Penske frequently butted heads. After months of public abuse, she finally left the site in 2013, albeit she was still on the payroll as a consultant. Finke recalled, “He tried to buy my silence.” There will be no selling. “When she was on, Nikki Finke personified the ideals of journalism; she was unafraid to report the unpalatable facts with a sharp pen and an air of mystery. She had a bold honesty, “Penske declared in a press release on Sunday. Never an easy person to get along with, Nikki is yet among the most memorable persons I’ve ever met. Finke dabbled with other things after leaving entertainment journalism, but she never returned to it.

The terms of her contract with Penske reportedly forbid her to write about Hollywood for the next decade. However, she vowed to relaunch NikkiFinke.com on her own. Instead, she unveiled HollywoodDementia.com, which featured made-up stories about the entertainment industry.

Finke worked for the Associated Press, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Post, and the New York Observer for many years before gaining fame with Deadline. Diane Keaton’s portrayal of journalist Tilda Watski in an HBO pilot from 2011 was based on her.
