Ozark, Netflix’s crime thriller, has never failed to keep us riveted, and season four promises to deliver some answers. Season three alone has seen the Byrde family tested to the breaking point in the name of their laundering business, putting their wits to the ultimate test.
When Omar Navarro abducted Marty, the drug kingpin himself, he didn’t stop torturing Marty and Wendy. In the meantime, the matriarch of the Byrde family was forced to order a hit on her own brother Ben in order to save their family from the cartel’s slaughter.
There is blood on their hands (and faces) now after Helen Pierce’s murder. In September 2021, an exclusive clip showed them cleaning up while an underground cartel family party was in full swing.
When will Ozark Season 4 Premiere?
A fourth and final season of 14 episodes, to be split in two has been confirmed by Netflix as a continuation of the series.
On Friday, January 21, the first seven episodes of Season 4 will be released. Neither a release date nor a title has been announced for Part 2.
Chris Mundy, showrunner of Ozark, said in a statement, “We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving Ozark more time to finish the Byrdes’ saga right” (via Variety). “It’s been an incredible experience for everyone involved, both on and off-screen, so we’re thrilled to be able to bring it all home in the most satisfying way possible,” says the director.
Who Will Play Who In Ozark’s Fourth Season?
There were a few character deaths in season three in Ozark fashion
Nelson shot and killed Navarro’s representative, Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer), in front of Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), and Wendy’s brother, Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey), after Wendy gave the go-ahead. They were the most notable deaths.
Sue (Marylouise Burke), the therapist for Marty and Wendy, was also murdered by Nelson on Helen’s orders.
In spite of these setbacks, however, all of the other major players are still alive and well. To recap, there’s Navarro (Felix Solis), Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner), Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner), Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery), Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan), and FBI Special Agent Maya Miller in this episode (Jessica Frances Dukes).
Please note that Miller is pregnant, which may have an impact on future episodes.
This includes KC mob boss and his son Frank Cosgrove (John Bedford Lloyd) as well as corrupt sheriff John Nix, Sam Dermody (Kevin L Johnson), FBI agent and Petty’s ex-lover Trevor Evans (McKinley Belcher III), and minor players Three Langmore (Carson Holmes) and Jade Dermody (Kevin L Johnson), as well as Petty’s ex-lover Trevor Evans (McKinley Belcher III) and his wife-to-be Jade (Melissa Saint-Amand).
Charles Wilkes (Darren Goldstein), who had a much more prominent role in season two, made a brief appearance in season three, so there’s room for him and his right-hand man, Jim, to return in the fourth season (Damian Young).
Erin (Madison Thompson), Helen’s daughter, seems to be the only one left now that her mother is gone.
There are also a few new faces. In the role of retired Illinois Senator Randall Schafer, played by former X-Men actor Bruce Davison, the character is willing to bend the rules for the right price.
- The character of Javi Elizonndro, a member of the Navarro family, will be played by Alfonso Herrera, who will switch between following orders and wanting to overthrow his boss.
- Adam Rothenberg plays Mel Sattem, a former cop who is now a private investigator, and he is determined to find the truth.
- Navarro’s priest is Bruno Bichir.
Sheriff Leigh Guerrero, portrayed by CC Castillo, takes a “my way or the high way” approach to law enforcement.
- n the role of Clare Shaw, CEO of a leading biopharmaceutical company, Katrina Lenk is featured. Power corrupts her judgment as she learns the true price of it.
What Can We Expect From Ozark Season 4?
Regarding the finale, Tahan described it as “nerve-wracking.” If you have a long-running show, you don’t have the entire script. As a result, you have no idea what to expect from the show. But I have complete faith in the Ozark writers.”
Bateman, as you might expect, has known the ending from the beginning.
According to him, “I’ve already figured out how it’s going to end” (via IndieWire). Mundy has the opportunity to answer the big question: Will they get away with it, or will they have to pay a bill??” Is there anything, in particular, he wants Byrdes’ actions – or lack thereof – to convey to the audience?
“We had some really interesting discussions about that, and I think he’s got some great suggestions.” As for the final episode, “I know, and it’s great,” says the author.
“I don’t know how they keep escalating the danger without killing us or putting us in jail,” Jason Bateman said on Jimmy Fallon in December 2020, referring to the writing team. Make as many blunders without getting killed or imprisoned as you can. And there’s more to come for the rest of the season.”
This time, we’ve managed to land the plane safely.
Aside from the fact that Bateman was only two weeks into shooting the final season when he made those comments, it appears that death and jail are no longer on the Byrdes’ end-game list unless Bateman was performing a pretty major misdirection (he is an actor, after all).
However, it appears that there will be repercussions to this. “He’s probably a little bit dumber than he thinks he is, so he backs into some bad decisions and he thinks they’re good decisions, and then he’s got to pay the price for cutting corners,” said Bateman of Marty.
Navarro chose Byrdes over Helen at the end of season three, giving Wendy the assurances she requested by shooting his lawyer in the head.
Attempts were being made by Helen to usurp Marty and Wendy’s positions, making them obsolete and ensuring their demise. But she failed, and as of now, the Byrdes and the Navarro cartel are still in a sleazy relationship.
“We thought of the first third of the season as Marty vs Wendy, and Wendy kind of wins that battle,” Mundy said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the shocking season finale. “Then it transitions to this tentative alliance between Wendy and Helen, and by extension Wendy and Marty vs Helen.”
Our goal in securing this tense stalemate at the end of the game was to maintain the tension between these two things that cannot coexist. Navarro isn’t going to put up with anything unstable and he’ll choose one side or the other at the end of the game.
In Ozark Season 4, Will He Make The Leap?
‘It’s working out better than I could have ever hoped for,’ Bateman tells IndieWire of the show’s success. What struck me most about the first two scripts I read were the senses that they were filled with tension and danger, as well as the opportunity to see if my abilities as a director could bring those elements to life on the screen.”
We can’t control how many people watch Ozark, but that only motivates us to keep going and improve it while also making it a little more difficult. ” It’s a great feeling, and it encourages me to try even bigger and more difficult things in the future.
Ruth, a key member of the Byrde team, has been taken over by Darlene and will assist her in her heroin operation alongside Wyatt. With Frank Cosgrove overseeing distribution in Kansas City, Darlene has the mob’s support as well.
We can assume that Navarro will take offense to that.
EW reported that Ruth’s role in the show will not diminish going forward, according to Mundy. In the end, he believes, the decision will come down to whether Ruth is able to create something of her own that she values and can maintain over the long term.
If the Byrdes succeed in turning their biggest mistake into this huge advantage, how much karma will they face as a result?
As for Jonah, he now knows his mom ordered the assassination of his uncle Benjamin. His parents had finally shown him their true colors, and he was tearing around town with a gun, the last time we saw him.
To put it mildly, things are going from bad to worse for him in the next chapter.
