Richard Cabral Net Worth: Mexican-American actor, producer, and writer Richard Cabral is best recognized for his work in the Golden Globe-nominated criminal thriller “American Crime.” The one-time thug and ex-performance con were so well received that he went on to star in such hit shows as Fox’s “Lethal Weapon” and the “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff “Mayans M.C.,” which is quickly becoming a beloved television institution.

Cabral’s fiery temperament and screen presence have garnered him roles in a number of Hollywood films since the turn of the century. His “warmth and sincerity” on screen “give richness and three-dimensionality to some challenging roles,” as one piece from 2015 on “NPR.org” put it. The fact that he was able to rise above his harsh childhood and become a “symbol of Latino tenacity” has earned him a lot of praise.

Richard Cabral has confirmed that he is leaving Mayans M.C. to star in his first leading role in the upcoming Peacock limited series, Twisted Metal. Season four of Mayans M.C. was filled with surprising deaths that were foreshadowed by the series’ showrunner before season four.

Richard Cabral Early Life

Cabral was born on August 28, 1984, in East Los Angeles, a neighborhood known for retaining its identity and resisting development. His parents were both born in Mexico. The father of 2-year-old Cabral abandoned the family. He grew up as an only child in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood notorious for its street gangs, drugs, and violence. Due to his upbringing in such a severe environment, he matured into a strong teen. Cabral had joined a New Jersey street gang and done time for wallet theft by the time he was 13. At 15, he was already addicted to crack and meth. He spent the rest of his teenage years in and out of juvenile detention and jail.

He used his free time to study for his GED, try his hand at rap, write poetry, and form a band called Baby Jokes. Additionally, he was a father. He was only 20, yet he got 35 years in prison for “violent assault with a deadly weapon” after he shot a man while he and his friends were drinking. After being given a five-year term, he realized he had to make a permanent change in his life or perish on the streets.

As soon as Cabral, then 25 years old, was released from prison after serving a 27-month sentence, he began looking for manual labor. However, he was unable to get work because of his past convictions and intimidating demeanor. Following that, a few pals suggested I check out “Homeboy Industries,” a well-known gang prevention program in Los Angeles.

Soon he’ll be washing dishes and making muffins by day, and taking acting classes at night to prepare for auditions through Homeboy’s connections at Central Casting at the Anthony Gilardi Acting Studio.

A casting director looking for “extras” at their location led to Cabral getting a non-speaking role as a Cuban thug on “CSI: Miami” just a few weeks after he joined the “Homeboy” cast. As a result, he was quickly discovered by the producers of “Southland,” the 2009 NBC smash police drama starring “Academy Award” winner Regina King.

As part of the “Warner Bros. Studios Tour,” King took three of the ten “Homeboy” inmates who had been chosen. And Cabral was one of those young men. When he got his first audition, everything shifted. In 2010, he appeared briefly in Bruno Mars’ music video “Grenade,” and then he was cast as “Marcelo Valdez” in Chris Weitz’s Oscar-nominated drama “A Better Life” (2011).

Acting roles in “End of Watch” (2012) with Jake Gyllenhaal, “The Counselor” (2013) with Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender, “Snitch” (2013) with Dwayne Johnson, “Walk of Shame” (2014), and “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones” (2015) followed quickly (2015). (2014). His guest-starring appearances span from 2011 through 2014.

Emmy-winning shows “Key and Peele,” “Chicago Fire” (NBC), “Body of Proof” (ABC), and “Luck” (HBO) all featured these. He was also a part of a couple of low-key productions. His breakthrough role came in the John Ridley–created ABC series “American Crime,” which received widespread critical and viewer acclaim and healthy ratings, and a box office return in 2015.

There were parallels between this person and Cabral’s own life that were striking. In the pilot season of “American Crime,” he portrayed the character Hector Tontz. Subsequently, he guest-starred “Sebastian De La Torre” and “Isaac Castillo” in seasons two and three. In 2015, he was nominated for both an OFTA Television Award and a Primetime Emmy for his work on “American Crime.”

The program also won “Best Ensemble” at the 2015 “Satellite Awards,” an honor shared with the rest of the ensemble. Short films “In Varrio We Trust” (2014) and “Secret Love” (2015) were both created and directed by him (2015). (2016). However, not long after, he had a major role in the high-budget Hollywood action film “Blood Father,” starring Mel Gibson.

Then he made an appearance on Fox’s “Lethal Weapon,” a show about two police officers working together. With his eight episodes as “Detective Cruz,” he became a more recognizable face in the early evening newscasts. Together with Robert Egan, he wrote the one-man show “Fighting Shadows” in 2016.

The episode centered on his life as a former gang member who had spent a significant portion of his adulthood behind bars. Los Angeles’ “The Rosenthal Theater” hosted three weeks of performances to a sold-out crowd. Subsequently, he produced and starred in an episode of “Jesus and Moi” and his own Tarantino-inspired indie film, “Khali the Killer” (2017).

The next year, 2018, he had roles in two films: the action thriller “Breaking In,” which was somewhat successful, and the comedy “Peppermint,” which starred Jennifer Garner. With his role as Coco on the Mexican-American biker culture showcase “Mayans M.C.,” Cabral experienced the biggest breakthrough of his career in 2018.

At the 2018 Critics’ Choice Television Awards, he was nominated for “Best Supporting Actor.” In 2019, he had roles in two episodes of the Hulu horror anthology “Into the Dark” and in the Netflix 9/11 thriller “Windows on the World.” His forthcoming East LA thriller, “Maze of Fate,” is in post-production, and he also created the pilot for “Throwbacks.” Four episodes of “Out the Box” all have him as their director.

Richard Cabral Personal Life

Both of Cabral’s marriages ultimately ended in divorce. His second wife, actor Janiece Sarduy, was married to him on October 24, 2014. He filed for divorce and custody of the children in June 2016, after he had broken up with her and taken them. Their girls, identical twins Adalyn and Bella Cabral, are named after their parents, Sarduy and Cabral.

In 2013, the formerly incarcerated man was honored with the “Lo Maximo” award. It is reserved for those who have made a major impact in their own lives or in the lives of others to get this award for special service. The production company “Lineage Entertainment Group,” which Cabral owns, was involved in both his solo stage show and his independent film, “Khali the Killer.”

Lineage hosts a monthly poetry slam in Montebello, California. Instead of writing a thorough account of his time spent in jail or on the streets, complete with all the gritty details, he used poetry to explore his very intimate experiences in his recently published autobiography, “Vida.”
