SAO Movie Announcement: During the celebration of the franchise’s 10th anniversary, it was revealed that Sword Art Online would be getting its own movie adaptation. Project Announced For An Sword Art Online Movie
When it comes to action-packed and futuristic anime, Sword Art Online is a household name. Beginning in 2002 and continuing through 2008, Reki Kawahara self-published a novel series based on her original story.
Following the novel’s massive popularity, a slew of spinoffs and sequels were announced. Sword Art Online gained even more attention when an anime adaptation aired for a full season (24 episodes) from July to December 2014.
The property has spawned numerous spin-offs, such as Sword Art Online: Progressive, Sword Art Online Alternative: Clover’s Regret, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, and many more. There have been multiple television series released from the franchise, with the most recent airing in 2021.
There have also been three film adaptations. Fans can rest assured, though, because a new film adaptation of the property has just been confirmed. The franchise’s official Twitter and YouTube accounts broke the news about the upcoming film. As a celebration to hit the milestone, a new event, “Sword Art Online -Full Dive Continue-” took held on YouTube, where the announcement was made. Besides the announcement that a new original film is in production, very few details have been made public so far. In fact, it hasn’t yet been decided whether or not the film would use animation.

No confirmation has been made on the animation studio, voice actors, or production staff. If the forthcoming film is an anime adaptation, however, we can count on the original cast and A-1 Pictures to return for the new movie.
In the meanwhile, the tweet requests that followers remain patient. At the same event, it was revealed that the role-playing game Sword Art Online: Last Recollection would launch in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.

Scherzo of Deep Night is the title of the forthcoming Sword Art Online film from the -Progressive- series, which will be released in Japan on September 10.
