Twice is a South Korean girl group created by JYP Entertainment that goes by TWICE, Teuwaiseu in Korean, Touwaisu in Japanese, and Teuwaiseu in Korean. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu are the other nine members of the group. Twice made its television debut on October 20, 2015, with the extended play (EP) The Story Starts. Twice was founded as part of the Sixteen (2015) television series.
The song “Cheer Up” by Twice, which peaked at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, became the best-performing single of the year, and won “Song of the Year” at the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards, catapulted the group to domestic prominence in 2016. From their third EP, Twicecoaster: Lane 1, “TT,” their next song, topped the Gaon charts for four weeks.
The EP sold more copies than any other Korean girl group record in 2016. Twice’s four EPs and unique album have sold over 1.2 million copies in the 19 months since their debut. The group has sold over 15 million records in South Korea and Japan since December 2020.
