“Smiling Friends” centers around a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading joy and happiness through animation for adults, developed by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack for Cartoon Network’s nighttime programming block Adult Swim.
As part of Adult Swim’s annual April Fools’ Day event in 2020, the pilot episode of Cusack’s second series, YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, premiered unexpectedly on April 1, 2020. An Adult Swim full-season order was made on May 19, 2021, which was originally scheduled to premiere in late 2021.
Panelist Zach Hadel revealed that the sitcom will premiere “within a few months” at Adult Swim Festival on November 12, 2021, shifting the release date up to 2022. There are eight episodes in the first season, which includes the pilot.
It was initially planned to air weekly, but Adult Swim instead aired the entire season in one night on January 10, 2022. A critical and economic triumph that received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, Smiling Friends was praised for its characterizations, humor, narrative, and incorporation of mixed media including 2D animation, 3D animation, and stop motion. A second season of the show was ordered by the network on February 9, 2022.
Smiling Friends Season 2: Release Date
Season 1 Episode 1 of “Smiling Friends” (season 1) aired on Adult Swim on January 9, 2022, in its entirety While it has been a long time since the debut episode aired on April 1, 2020, the show is still new to the public consciousness. Eleven minutes per episode is typical for the first season.
We’re working on the second season of the animated series, and we’ve got some exciting stuff planned. “Smiling Friends” has not been renewed for a second season of animated television. Regardless, we’re excited about the show’s return.
With over 1.3 million views across various social media platforms, the pilot episode of Adult Swim was one of the most popular.
Smiling Friends Season 2
Each of the show’s producers wants to cash in on the show’s fame. As an added bonus, the show’s absurdist and outrageous concept should make it difficult for the production team to come up with new scenarios for future episodes.
In May 2021, Charlie and Pim’s universe arrived on our screens with a full season order for season 1 already in place. Season 2 of “Smiling Friends” is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2023 because of the time needed for recommissioning and animation.

Smiling Friends Season 2: Plot
Throughout the first season, we follow Charlie and Pim as they work to uplift and assist their clients. They include Enchantress, Ketchup, and Mr. Frog. This is the seventh time they’ve done it, with Storm and others.
A tree falls on Charlie at the end of the first season and kills him. To cheer him up in hell, he travels there himself. If there is a second season of Smiling Friends, we may learn more about Charlie’s future. We could also dig deeper into how Smiling Friends Inc. and the Boss deal with the threat of rivals.
Satire and awkward, yet funny, moments will be prevalent, as well as sarcasm about current events. As an example, mental health and cancel culture are addressed in the first season. To discover how the characters are striving to lift each other up would be quite interesting.
That actually has a positive effect and inspires me. That’s why Smiling Friends’ fans adore the show and eagerly await the release of season 2.
Smiling Friends Season 2: The Voice Cast
Interestingly, in this TV show, a single actor can play the part of the voice of multiple people. Smiling Friends season 2 is almost certain to feature the original core voice cast from season one, given the quality of their performances.
Pim (Michael Cusack) is joined by Alan, Pim’s Sister, Pim’s Dad, Pim’s Mom (Marc M.), Grim, Ketchup Packet (Chris O’Neill), and Mr. Frog (Michael Cusack) (as Auditioning Father and Storm).
Many more actors appear in the show, including David Dore (as the Party Bro and Forest Demon), Erica Lindbeck (as the assistant to Mustard Packet, Pepper, Jennifer, Enchantress, Finn Wolfhard (the Man Who Lives in a Wall), Mike Stoklasa, Jane Badler, and Gilbert Gottfried.
