Stranger Things 4 Breaks Nielsen Streaming Top 10 Chart Record

As people caught up before Season 4, Volume 1 came out, Nielsen’s U.S. ranking of streaming originals included Stranger Things for the first time. After the first new episodes came out, Stranger Things dominated the Nielsen Top 10 chart for the weeks of May 23 to May 30. Stranger Things was watched for a total of 5.1 billion minutes during the week of May 23. This was spread across 32 episodes.

Then, during the week of May 30, the supernatural thriller broke all Nielsen Top 10 records by being watched for 7.2 billion minutes. The previous record was held by Netflix’s “Tiger King,” which had been watched for a total of 5.3 billion minutes as of March 2020. The Lincoln Lawyer, which has already been renewed, came in second both weeks, with 1.2 billion and 970 million minutes watched.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ were watched for 1 billion minutes in the week of May 23. This put the show at No. 3 for the week of May 30, and it stayed there for the week of May 30. (amassing 960 minutes viewed across three available episodes). Nearly two-thirds of the people who watched Obi-Wan were men, making it the most male-skewing show on these charts.
