Super Junior Band

The members of Super Junior, commonly known as SJ or SuJu, were brought together in 2005 by Lee Soo-man, the company’s founder and the patriarch of SM Entertainment in South Korea. Due to their influential role in the Korean Wave, they have also been dubbed the “King of Hallyu Wave” by the media.

Leader Leeteuk, together with members Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun, make up the current lineup of Super Junior. While the group was expanded to a full complement of 13 with the acquisition of Kyuhyun in 2006, the departures of Han Geng, Kibum, and Kangin in 2011, 2015, and 2019 have left the remaining members with only 2.

In 2009, Super Junior broke out on the global scene with the release of their platinum-selling single “Sorry, Sorry,” which was also the title track of their most commercially and critically successful album.

They’ve split up into subsets over time, each focusing on a specific subset of the music business or fanbase. Individually, the band members have branched out into hosting, presenting, and acting. Because of their widespread success and popularity, several Korean entertainment agencies have started providing similar training to their music groups.

For four consecutive years, Super Junior topped the charts as Korea’s most popular boy band. They are the second Korean group (after jtL in 2003) to win Favorite Artist Korea at the MTV Asia Awards, having won thirteen Mnet Asian Music Awards and nineteen Golden Disc Awards between them.

They were up for “Best Asian Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards that year (2012). At the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, they took home two trophies: “International Artist” and “Best Fandom.”

With the release of their eighth studio album Play in 2017, the eighth album repackage REPLAY in 2018, their ninth studio album Time Slip in 2019, and their ninth studio album repackage Timeless in March 2020, Super Junior set a new record in leading Taiwan’s KKBOX Korean Album Chart for 122 consecutive weeks.
