The third season of the critically acclaimed Catherine the Great dramedy has been renewed for a total of ten episodes. The announcement was made during a Disney-hosted session of the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
As the longest-reigning female queen in Russian history, Elle Fanning (Maleficent) appears in this satirical series from creator Tony McNamara (The Favourite), which takes a lighthearted approach to historical accuracy. The second season, which premiered in November, follows Catherine as she ascends to the throne and battles to bring enlightenment to the kingdom as a whole.
In November, McNamara stated on The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast that he did not have a precise concept for how many seasons the series will run.
“I know a whole lot of intriguing occurrences that you can use as a springboard for other things,” he remarked. When it comes to the present, I try not to look too far ahead. At the conclusion of season two, I was unsure of what season three would include. I enjoy the mystery of not knowing what will happen next. In the case of an excellent ensemble cast and a diverse cast of characters, you may invent characters as you go for quite some time.”
On Rotten Tomatoes, the second season presently has a perfect freshness rating of 100 percent, and it has been nominated for three Critics’ Choice Award nominations. Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow all feature in the series, which is produced by HBO.
The Great is produced by Civic Center Media in partnership with MRC Television (MRC is a co-owner of The Hollywood Reporter as part of a joint venture with Penske Media termed P-MRC) and is available on DVD.
