American sports commentator and former National Football League (NFL) player Tony Romo played for the league for a total of 14 seasons. He was a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys after they picked him in the 2003 NFL draft despite the fact that he had gone undrafted.
In the 2003 NFL draft, he was passed over by every team except for Dallas, where head coach Sean Payton picked him up. His club beat the Oakland Raiders in a game he had a key role in winning. Romo started the 2005 and 2006 seasons as a backup despite his stellar preseason performances. In 2006, he finished seventh in the NFC in passing yards and seventh in throwing touchdowns.

Tony Romo Career
After suffering a compression fracture to the L1 vertebra in his back in the Cowboys’ third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks in 2016, Romo was sidelined for the start of the regular season. He was sidelined for the first ten games of the season due to the injury, and backup quarterback Dak Prescott was thrust into the starting role.
The success of Dak Prescott and the length of Tony Romo’s recovery caused Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to reevaluate his previous statement that Romo would remain the starter when he returned. Amid Prescott directing the team to an eight-game winning run, Romo resigned his status as starting quarterback to Prescott and began working as the Cowboys’ backup when he returned to the active roster in Week 11.
On January 1, 2017, the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles played in the regular season finale, and that was Romo’s first game of the year. After Mark Sanchez came in, he fired a touchdown ball to Terrance Williams on what would be his final play as a professional quarterback.
