A professional dancer of Ukrainian and American descent, Valentin Aleksandrovich “Val” Chmerkovskiy is most renowned for his appearances on the U.S. version of Dancing with the Stars, which he won twice. Chmerkovskiy has won 14 U.S. National Latin Dance Championships and two World Latin Dance Championships (Junior and Youth).
Chmerkovskiy was born in Odesa, Ukraine, in the Soviet Union at the time. Aleksandr “Sasha” Chmerkovskiy and Larisa Chmerkovskaya are his parents. Maksim Chmerkovskiy, his elder brother, was born in 1980 and is a professional dancer who competes on Dancing with the Stars. His mother is Christian, and his father is Jewish.
In 1994, the family relocated to the US. Valentin was a student in the youth-focused dance studio that Maksim and Sasha started in New Jersey in 1996. Valentin and his 15-year-old partner Diana Olonetskaya made history in 2001 when they became the first American dance team to win a world junior championship. In this post, we will discuss Val Chmerkovskiy’s brother.
Who Is Val Chmerkovskiy Brother?
Maks Chmerkovskiy, Val’s older brother, gave fans an update on the circumstances. Currently employed in Ukraine, he was his route to a bomb bunker in order to protect himself from Russian military forces. He talks about how his PTSD was triggered by the invasion in the description of his Instagram video.
Tensions with Russia caused Maks, Val, and their parents to flee Ukraine in the 1990s. Although Maks appears to be safe for the time being, he is going through one of the worst periods of his life again. Peta Murgatroyd, Maks’ wife, lastly requested prayers. In the US, she is at home with their son. They’re only waiting on Maks to get home safely for the time being.
Val Chmerkovskiy posted a passionate description of the events. “My parents fled this country for this exact reason,” the 35-year-old dancer began. “Not because it wasn’t good to them, but because their kids would see war eventually. It’s a cruel irony that 28 years later my brother is in a bomb shelter in Kiev. If they hadn’t left I would be on the front lines defending my home right now.”
“And the most heartbreaking thing of all I would be either killing or dying at the hand of my fellow brothers. The Russian people don’t want this!! We stood by each other’s side. We love and celebrated one another. I speak Russian yes but make no mistake about it, I am a proud Ukrainian and now all the world will finally know the difference. Slava Ukraini all day every day! And to all my Russian friends this might be the best and only time to stand up to your dictator.”
