Vox Machina Season 2 Release Date: Production firms, especially those in the age of streaming, are constantly looking for ideas for new and intriguing tales to add to their vast archives. Usually, these adaptations are made from previous films and television shows, novels, video games, true stories, and other sources.
However, for one ground-breaking series, none of those sources were used. Technically speaking, it is a game adaptation, but not one that anybody can play since this adaptation was based solely on one in-depth Dungeons & Dragons playthrough. Not just any campaign but one that featured some of the most active voice actors in the business.
The game was started by Critical Role, where these voice acting celebrities (their party was given the name Vox Machina, which is Latin for “speech machine”) not only contributed their talents to a fantastic D&D game but also had a great time doing it. The live-stream series immediately became viral and amassed a sizable following over time.
The creators of Critical Role eventually wanted to produce an animated short film to bring these characters to life, so they launched a Kickstarter effort to make this happen. What began as a creative notion to give fans a unique treat developed into a twelve-episode animated series that would quickly become a classic for fans of fantasy and animation.
It follows an odd group of bar-hopping miscreants who become the sworn protectors of the land and come to blows with the most significant threats the kingdom has ever seen.
The story is set in a mystical fantasy realm of secret magic and evil dragons. The first season received plaudits from both critics and viewers for its unexpectedly complex fantasy aspects, hysterically mature humor, and startlingly terrifying horror parts, making it a rather on-brand series for the streaming service that gave us both Invincible and The Boys.
The Vox Machina crew will soon return to television, bringing even more mayhem and shenanigans. Here is everything we currently know about the upcoming second season of The Legend of Vox Machina so you can find out what’s in store.
Vox Machina Season 2 Release Date
Season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina will premiere in January 2023, according to a special panel Critical Role hosted on October 7 at the 2022 New York Comic Con. Since then, a brand-new preview trailer from Prime Video has revealed that the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina will debut on January 20, 2023.
While fans are thrilled by this news, many were already aware that The Legend of Vox Machina would return for a new adventure. This is because the second season of the popular animated series was already ordered in November 2019 when The Legend of Vox Machina was initially revealed.
According to Variety, the first ten episodes of the Dungeons & Dragons television series were first funded by a Kickstarter effort. On the other hand, Amazon Prime Video recognized the potential right away because it placed an order for an additional 14 episodes, bringing the total to 24 over two seasons.
Vox Machina Season 2 Cast
Along with returning executive producer Chris Prynoski (Big Mouth) and showrunner Brandon Auman, the business Critical Role will continue to play a significant role in the development of the series (Star Wars Resistance). Writing for the series will also be done by Prynoski and Auman, who will adapt the Critical Role campaign.
Young Heller, who previously worked in the art department for DC animated movies like Batman: Hush, will helm at least one episode. The full roster of directors has not yet been made public (2019). Editor Todd Raleigh (Love, Death & Robots), composer Neal Acree (World of Warcraft), and casting director Sam Riegel (DC Super Hero Girls), who also stars in the program, are all members of the staff.
The same group of players from the initial D&D campaign and the whole returning cast from Season 1 return, once again contributing their unmatched voice-acting abilities. The Last of Us: Part II’s Laura Bailey, Street Fighter IV’s Taliesin Jaffe.
The Last of Us’ Ashley Johnson as Pike, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children’s Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan, World of Warcraft’s Marisha Ray as Keyleth, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Sam Riegel as Scanlan, and Marvel’s Avengers’ Travis Willingham as Grog make up the impressive cast of protagonists.
The original D&D campaign’s dungeon master, Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), will also contribute his voice to several roles. An outstanding lineup of guest performers for Season 2 follows the different Season 1 guest stars. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), Ralph Ineson (Willow), Alanna Ubach (Coco), Henry Winkler (Barry).
Lance Reddick (John Wick), Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings), Will Friedle (Kim Possible), Cree Summer (Atlantis: The Lost Empire), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes), and Cheech Marin are just a few of the actors mentioned (The Lion King).
Vox Machina Season 2 Plot
While the actors of Critical Role refused to reveal specific plot points for Season 2 on their panel at New York Comic Con, they did significantly hint at what fans will see with knowing looks and smirks.
The Chroma Conclave deposing Emon, Grog’s troubles with the Craven Edge and his estranged family, and the party’s journey to the fae realm, where they will encounter Vax and Vex’s estranged father, were the plot aspects they hinted at or confirmed.

Even though the season’s plot has not yet been officially announced, all indications are that “The Chroma Conclave” arc will be adapted. Particularly considering how the Season 1 finale concluded with Sovereign Uriel (Kharry Payton) declaring his resignation and turning over control of the Tal’dorei government to the Tal’dorei Council.
However, Vex experiences a splitting headache similar to the one she gets when a dragon is around as Uriel finishes his statement. The silhouette of a dragon then rises out of the sun’s brilliance, followed by three more as they race toward Emon. There has arrived the Chroma Conclave.
While Season 1 closes with this revelation, fans who have watched or listened to the live-streamed games are aware that the dragons assault Emon right away, murdering many of the residents there for Uriel’s speech, and then pursue the remaining citizens as they try to leave.
Thanks to Keyleth’s “Transport through Plants” spell, Vox Machina can return to their keep. However, it only buys them a few minutes as they advance to the fortress and meet with one of the legendary dragons.

Vox Machina Season 2 Trailer
In The Legend of Vox Machina teaser, dragons—possibly their biggest adversaries—attack the realm. There were four of them. The Vox Machina team will face a formidable opponent, as we saw in Season 1 when they struggled to slay even one dragon, let alone four.
We also know that Dragons aren’t the pleasant flying lizards from series like “How to Train Your Dragon” because, in this world, dragons can transform into humans and seek retribution against other humans who have seized territory they believe to be their own.
The trailer starts with a sad and dramatic tone, but it doesn’t take long for the show’s playful spirit to emerge as the team works out how to stop these dragons while having a good time and partying.
