HP OMEN laptops are designed for gamers who want powerful performance, sleek design, and immersive features. But with so many models and configurations to choose from, how do you know which one is the best for your gaming needs? In this article, we will compare some of the most popular HP OMEN laptops and help you decide which one suits you best.
The Best HP OMEN Laptop For Gaming:
HP OMEN 16 (2023)
HP desires for the Omen 16 to mature. Though it can’t compete with the greatest gaming laptops, the legendary laptop is most recognized for its low price. Previous Omen 16 iterations have hit the correct note in terms of value. With far more powerful components, the 2023 Omen 16 is a different animal and aims to compete with more expensive gaming laptops.
The Omen 16 2023 makes an effort to be a more capable variant of the formerly low-cost gaming laptop, but it falters far too frequently in the process. The Omen 16 is difficult to recommend to gamers searching for a high-end laptop due to its high price and choices that appear to have been made with budget gaming laptops in mind.
This laptop appears to be trying to find a place in both the luxury and cheap laptop markets, but it can’t seem to settle in either.
HP OMEN 16 (2023, 13TH GEN CORE) SPECS
I looked over the specifications for the Omen 16, which has an Nvidia RTX 4070 and an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS. On HP’s website, this setup costs $1,620. However, it costs significantly more at stores. An identical combination costs $1,850 at Best Buy, for instance.
Although it seems a bit expensive for a laptop with an RTX 4070, neither the GPU nor the CPU is the issue here. Retailers charge $1,850 for a screen that is 1080p with only 512GB of storage. That is unprecedented for a laptop costing more than $1,500. I’ll go into more detail about the screen’s shortcomings later in this review.

More setting choices are available to you. For the starting price of $1,200, you can obtain a laptop with the same storage, memory, and display as well as a Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4060.
With the Ryzen 9 7940HS and RTX 4070, 2TB of storage, 32GB of RAM, and a 1440p panel with a refresh rate of 240Hz, you can fancy out the laptop for $2,090.
HP OMEN X 2S
The high-end HP Omen X 2S (starting at $1,899; $2,499 as tested) is clearly unusual among gaming laptops because it has an additional built-in screen. The second screen is situated directly in front of the keyboard, the same as on the Asus ZenBook Pro Duo.
It’s only 6 inches, so it’s not big enough to mimic a standard dual-monitor arrangement. Still, it adds usefulness and, surprise!, doesn’t drive up the price of the HP above what the competition charges for comparable hardware.
When you include the metal construction and RGB lighting that are anticipated of a gaming notebook in this price range, the Omen X 2S is among our top choices for a top-tier 15.6-inch gaming laptop. We are able to award this particular laptop Editors’ Choice.

HP OMEN 17 (2023)
The Omen series of laptops from HP is renowned for its incredible speed and graphics capabilities. That is also the case with the most recent Omen 17, which sports an Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU and a potent Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU.
The primary changes from the Omen 17 of last year are the redesigned core components from the new GPU (Ada Lovelace) and CPU generation (Raptor Lake). But the casing hasn’t altered all that much.
Additionally, it is housed in a black chassis with a plastic underside and a top bearing the Omen writing and emblem. It appears as though the design is angular and full of power. Despite all of this laptop’s advantages, there are a few lackluster features. After a short while, fingerprints on the wrist rest and lid become an annoyance.
Additionally, the casing lacks connectors on the back, making cable management challenging, and the lid wobbles when you adjust the viewing angle. Nevertheless, those are small complaints about an otherwise excellent gaming laptop.
