On September 25, 1968, in Weinfield, Pennsylvania, Will Smith was born. Because their father thought that learning should extend beyond the walls of the classroom, he took Will Smith and his brothers on annual field trips to various locations where they learned about the history and culture of the area they were visiting. Since he was a youngster, Will Smith has been seeking his inner actor, which may explain why, at the age of 18, he turned to rap music. At the age of 18, he became a millionaire because of the success of his songs. In the wake of its success, he was dubbed the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and became a household name.
Will Smith Early Life
Will Smith grew up in West Philadelphia, the son of a school administrator and a refrigerator engineer. He had a humble upbringing. Jeffrey Allen Townes, a local DJ who became known as DJ Jazzy Jeff, was a boyhood buddy of his. Their paths crossed when Jeff sought a hype guy for performance down the street. Smith leaped at the opportunity, and the two struck up a friendship right away. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince would be the name of the band they would ultimately establish.
They were signed to Def Jam Records by Russell Simmons in 1986, the year of his arrival at the label. In 1987, they published their first album, “Rock the House.” The album has been certified gold. In 1988, they published “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper,” their second album. More than three million copies of the book were sold. The pair would go on to record five albums as a unit. Will was the first person to win a Grammy in the newly created Rap category back in 1988.
Will Smith Acting Career
Six Degrees of Separation (1993) and Bad Boys (1995), starring Martin Lawrence, were Smith’s first notable performances. Commercially, the latter picture was a big hit, earning $141.4 million in total revenue worldwide. Mixed reviews were received from the media, though. Smith appeared in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day with a large ensemble cast in 1996. The second highest-grossing picture in history at the time, it established Smith as one of cinema’s most popular stars.
While portraying Agent J in Men in Black, he co-starred with Tommy Lee Jones. A $90 million budget resulted in a global total of $589.3 million, making it the third highest-earning picture of the year. It sold an estimated 54,616,700 tickets in the United States. It was favorably received by reviewers, who praised the comedy and the performances of Jones and Smith. It was in the summer of 1997 that Smith released “Men in Black,” which became the film’s anthem and topped the charts in various countries worldwide, including the United Kingdom.

They paid $7.5 million in 1999 for 100 acres in the hills between Malibu and Calabasas, California, where they built their dream home. During the next year, they acquired numerous adjoining lots to form a 150-acre continuous property mass. An enormous main home, multiple guest buildings, an idyllic private lake, equestrian paths, and more make up the sprawling property. Willow Smith recorded her first hit single, “Whip My Hair,” in the home’s recording studio, which has a retractable skylight. To keep you entertained while you’re not out playing sports, the area surrounding Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s home has a man-made lake, a lagoon-style pool, a volleyball court, a basketball court, and a tennis court.

After falling in love with actor Gene Hackman’s Santa Fe house, they decided to construct the property in the same manner. Due to environmental concerns and permission constraints, they recruited Hackman’s Santa Fe architect for the project. They secretly put the home on the market for $42 million in 2013 but were unable to find a buyer. The value of this property alone is estimated to be between $50 and $70 million at this point in time.
It was sold for $12 million in 2017 by Will and Jada’s 7-acre seaside property in Kauai. For $10 million, they purchased a multi-home property in 2015. Dmitry Rybolovlev’s daughter, Ekaterina Rybolovlev, purchased a 7-acre coastal Hawaiian home for $20 million in 2011.
Will Smith Rapping Career
Will Smith’s music career brought about $10 million in earnings between 1988 and 1990. Will spent his money like it was going out of style because he thought the good days would stay forever. He bought mansions, vehicles, clothing, jewelry, and more. He lavished his friends and family with gifts, too. Unfortunately, the radio listeners had grown bored of Will and Jazzy Jeff by the time he won the Grammy. Suddenly, their “radio-friendly” tunes were derided as “rap sell-outs” by critics.
Will was also, regrettably, not paying his taxes throughout the boom. Will found out at the age of 21 that he owes the government $2.8 million in back taxes from his fat years. This is equivalent to around $6 million in debt when adjusted for inflation. According to an interview Smith gave in 2018 when asked about those trying times, he said: Famous and broke is a strange mix because you’re still well-known and recognized, but it’s awkward to be recognized on the bus.
Super-producer Quincy Jones contacted Will about appearing in a television program around this time. Will was first adamantly opposed to the concept of appearing in a comedy. The last thing he wanted was to be seen as a sellout by the public. But on the bright side, the job came with a substantial salary.

Will and Jada have a substantial real estate portfolio that includes properties around the United States.
