Jimin Rules Tops the Emerging Artists List and Becomes BTS’ First Solo Top 40 Hot 100 Hit

BTS’s seven members have all reached No. 1 on the Emerging Artists chart at this point. On Billboard’s most recent charts, Jimin is having a big week (dated April 1). With his “Set Me Free, Pt. 2” debuting at No. 30, the South Korean singer/dancer becomes the first BTS member to earn an unaccompanied solo top 40 smash on the Billboard Hot 100 list.

The song, released on March 17 through BigHit Music/Geffen/Interscope Records, sold 63,000 downloads in its first week and received 6.4 million U.S. streams. It debuts at No. 1 simultaneously on the World Digital Song Sales chart and the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, making it the second leader on both lists.

The song debuts at No. 8 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 5 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. (56 million streams; 42,000 sold worldwide).

Jimin‘s second solo song outside of BTS to appear on the Hot 100 is “Set Me Free, Pt. 2.” (which boasts six No. 1s among six top 10s). With his TAEYANG collaboration “Vibe,” which peaked at No. 76 in January, he became the seventh and last member of BTS to earn a solo entry on the Hot 100.

Of the 14 solo songs by BTS members to hit the Hot 100, “Free” is the third to reach the top 40 and the first unaccompanied. Juice WRLD and Suga’s “Girl of My Dreams” hit No. 29 in 2021, and Charlie Puth’s “Left and Right,” featuring Jung Kook, peaked at No. 22 in 2022.

Thanks to “Free,” Jimin also becomes the seventh member of BTS to reach No. 1 on the Emerging Artists chart, joining RM, who did so for a week in November 2018, Suga, who did so for a week in December 2021, V, who did so for a week in January 2022, Jung Kook, who did so for a week in February 2022, J-Hope, who did so for a week in July 2022, and JIN (one week, November 2022). Using the same methodology as the comprehensive Billboard Artist 100 tracks artist activity across various Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200, and the Social 50, the Emerging Artists chart ranks the most well-liked up-and-coming musicians of the week.

The Emerging Artists chart, however, does not include musicians who have reached two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings, as well as acts who have notched a full 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200.
