Choi Sung-bong died on Tuesday. He was a male singer who came in second place on “Korea’s Got Talent” in 2011. He was 33. Choi’s body was found at his home in the Yeoksam area of southern Seoul at 9:41 a.m. on Tuesday, police and fire officials said Wednesday.
The Yonhap news source says that Choi seems to have killed himself, which is what the authorities in Seoul say. Their conclusion was based on what they saw at his house and on a note he put on YouTube that seemed to say he killed himself.
“I am sincerely sorry for my foolish mistakes and those who have suffered damage, and I have repeatedly made mistakes,” the note said. Choi performed a soprano version of Ennio Morricone’s “Nella Fantasia” on the tvN show “Korea’s Got Talent” and came close to winning first place.
He used this close call to get a record deal with Bong Bong Company. He put out three albums, a few songs, and a book about how he came from a poor background and made it big.
Choi got a lot of help from the public and a lot of money in 2021 after he said he was facing multiple types of cancer. But it turned out that his claims were not valid.

After that, he stopped being in the news, but he promised to pay back the money he got. In a note on YouTube, he said that everyone who asked for their money back had gotten it.
“From 2011 to the present, I have been receiving attention and love from so many people. I sincerely thank you and express my gratitude […] Looking back, since I was young, I tried my best to enjoy a normal life, like every day for 10 years, but in the end, I’m sorry,” he wrote on YouTube.
