The comedian said that she was abruptly dumped after a year of seeing her American partner, who she said helped him become more proficient in Korean.
In an effort to improve her English, Park Na Rae said that she relocated to a neighborhood known for housing foreigners. She said, “I wanted to be good at English so badly that I moved to Itaewon, but my English never improved because all the foreigners spoke Korean so well.”
She went on, “I dated my American boyfriend for a year, and when we broke up, he cursed at me in Korean. I wasn’t able to learn English. He said to me in precise diction, ‘Get lost. I hate you so much.’ His Korean improved too much.”
