Omar’s musical journey began with the Colombia-based folk group Los Diablitos (The Little Devils) in 1985. After parting ways with the group in 1991, he embarked on a solo career while maintaining strong ties with his former bandmates. Over the years, he earned two Latin Grammy nominations, showcasing his talent and influence in the industry.
According to a statement by his PR representative Paul Bolaños, Omar suffered a heart attack while playing tennis at a country club and was rushed to the hospital. Tragically, he passed away shortly after his arrival.
Worries about his well-being were escalating before his death. In April, Omar had to cancel a concert in San Jose, Calif., because of intense chest and arm discomfort.
