The release date of ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier, the next game from Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, is already on the minds of players eager to discover what the developer has in store for them this time around.
Haunted Chocolatier, a role-playing game/simulation with some similarities to its forerunner, eliminates the opportunity to dream of becoming a successful farmer. Instead, the gameplay is more like “magical haunted ghost chocolate.” See below for information on Haunted Chocolatier’s release Date, plot, gameplay, and more.
Haunted Chocolatier Release Date
There is no confirmed release date for Haunted Chocolatier yet, and it is not expected to be a new game in 2023. In 2021, Barone explained that “I can’t commit to a release date yet” as it’s still “relatively early in development.”
“I want to be able to work in peace without the pressure of a release date or even an estimated release date,” the post continues. It’s probably safe to assume that it’s still early in development, so it will likely be entirely some time before Haunted Chocolatier arrives. In a later update, Barone added: “The bottom line is that I won’t rest, or release this game, until I am personally satisfied that it’s entertaining and compelling, in every aspect. If it never gets there, I’ll never release it. But don’t worry. I have 100% faith that I’ll get it there.”
What about the story of the Haunted Chocolatier?
In Haunted Chocolatier, you take on the role of a chocolatier who runs a shop out of a haunted castle and must collect uncommon materials to make a variety of chocolates to sell. You can see that there’s a bit more chocolate here than in Stardew Valley.
“Sweet chocolate stands for all that is enticing. The eerie castle represents the mysterious appeal of the unknown. Ghosts are like a fingerprint from the past. These are all crucial considerations. Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because this game is set in a haunted castle full of ghosts, it is inherently wrong, “the creator stated in the blog post promoting the game.
“Quite the opposite. I want this game to be a source of positivity and hope. In contrast to Stardew Valley, which focused mostly on solar energy, Haunted Chocolatier used lunar power. They both need to be taken seriously.”
References to Stardew Valley have also been confirmed for Haunted Chocolatier; however, “how deep the relationship will go exactly” is something Barone has not yet decided.

Get a Taste of Fear with Haunted Chocolatier’s Spooky Gameplay
Play in Haunted Chocolatier will involve standard RPG aspects like relocating to a new town, mingling with the locals, and starting a new career path. Despite this, “the basic gameplay and theming are quite a bit different,” as the creator puts it.
“A more traditional action RPG, Haunted Chocolatier stands in stark contrast to Stardew Valley. You’re not centered on a farm but a chocolate shop.” Below is a trailer showcasing part of the game’s gameplay, including exploration, crafting, gathering, and battle; the pixel art style will look recognizable to anyone who has played ConcernedApe’s last match.
There are no plans to add multiplayer support at this time. As stated by the creator, “almost everything” in Haunted Chocolatier was made from scratch. Combat is emphasized more than in previous titles, and players can utilize shields to block blows and sometimes stun their opponents, giving them an advantage in subsequent attacks.
However, you won’t be limited to this tactic; other off-hand things will also be available so that you can tailor your play to the situation.
Will there be Haunted Chocolatier Multiplayer?
This is a significant concern for the many Stardew enthusiasts who, like the author, found farming more fun when shared with a friend. Haunted Chocolatier will only support single-player mode, as stated in the game’s FAQ. Do remember that Stardew was also designed as a solo experience at its inception, even if Barone has no current intentions to modify this.
The future may hold anything. Now that you’re up to speed on when to expect Haunted Chocolatier, you should investigate the most recent updates concerning the launch of another highly awaited indie game, Hollow Knight Silksong.
