New York’s Governors Ball festival will feature a performance by Aespa in June of 2023. As the first K-Pop act to ever perform at the festival, the emerging phenom group will forever change its place in history. The girl quartet will perform alongside acts including Lizzo, ODESZA, and Kendrick Lamar on the festival’s main stage.
As Aespa shared, “We’re super psyched to perform at Gov Ball. I can’t wait to see our New York fans and have an amazing time at the festival! We’ll make sure to bring an amazing performance, so let’s have fun with everything we got!”
On Saturday, June 10, Aespa will headline the Governors Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, which will run from Friday, June 9, through Sunday, June 11. The first time American festivalgoers saw aespa was at last year’s Coachella, where they played on the Mainstage.
When aespa dropped “Girls – The 2nd Mini Album” in July, it shot straight to Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, further demonstrating the group’s worldwide fame.
K-pop
K-pop, or Korean pop (Korean: RR: keipap), is a musical genre that emerged in South Korea and is strongly associated with that country’s culture. In addition to its traditional Korean music roots, it incorporates forms and genres worldwide, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical.

In the 2000s, the word “K-pop” gained widespread usage, particularly outside of South Korea. In South Korea, gayo (Korean) is still known as homegrown pop music. Even though the term “K-pop” can be used to describe any music that is popular in South Korea, the term is typically used in a more specific sense to refer to the tune of, and the musicians involved in, the country’s entertainment and idol industry.
After the emergence of the hip-hop boy band Seo Taiji and Boys in 1992, the more contemporary style of the genre, once dubbed “rap dance,” arose. They helped modernize South Korea’s modern music scene by experimenting with diverse types and genres of music and incorporating foreign musical components.
