What Led to the Mishappening?
Following a single-vehicle collision early on Sunday, the automobile of two Cowlitz County residents was declared dead at the scene after it struck a tree and then a train car close to the Columbia River.
Logan R. Kallwick, 33, and Taylor R. Lavigne, 23, of Kalama, were driving south on I-5 in an Audi R8 just north of Exit 27 when the vehicle veered off to the right, ran up an embankment and struck a tree, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.
The vehicle kept going and eventually came to a stop after colliding with a train rail car carrying liquefied propane. The Cowlitz County coroner verified the victims’ identities. The two did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and they were not wearing seatbelts. The investigation into what caused the crash is still ongoing.
