Rumor has it that Jungkook, Taehyung, Jimin, and Namjoon of BTS were promoted to the rank of Private First Class in the military, according to an X user who published the news on February 29, 2024.
The four members of BTS joined the South Korean military in December 2023 and were sent out to different units after finishing basic training.
Namjoon, sometimes known as RM, and Taehyung were both sent to different divisions after graduating as Elite Soldiers on January 16, 2024. Jin, a member of BTS, has been serving with the 5th Infantry Division since December 2022, and Jungkook and Jimin were sent there.
The four members of BTS received well-wishes from their ecstatic fans on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. An X user just shared an update that went viral:

BTS Jungkook, Jimin, V and RM are Promoted Together
As of December 2023, all seven members of Bangtan Sonyeondan, also known as BTS, were doing their required military service in South Korea. Once the four soldiers have served for nearly three months in the Republic of Korea, they will be officially promoted from the rank of Private to Private First Class.
Upon special request from their supervisor, recruits in the Republic of Korea Army Force (ROKAF) are given the designation “ldeungbyeong” (흼등병), which means first-class private, within one year of enlistment.
Both Namjoon and Taehyung were promoted to the rank of Elite Soldier on March 1, 2024, according to reports. On January 18, 2024, when BTS’ Jimin finished his five weeks of basic training and military graduation, the division commander dubbed him the best trainee in his unit.

The Chief of Division also expressed his gratitude by awarding him the HONOR OF EXEMPLARY. Rumor has it that Jungkook has been killing it in every military training drill. When word got out that all four idols had been promoted within the first three months of joining the army, the fans couldn’t contain their joy.

Most militaries use the rank of “Private” as their lowest enlisted rank. There are three levels of commissioned officers: general officers (“Jangseong”; 성), field-grade officers (“Yeonggwan”; 혁/), and company-grade officers (“Wigwan”; 휄관).

The Air Force, Navy, and Army of South Korea all use the same Hangul titles on official documents. Members of the South Korean military are organized according to their level of authority: senior enlisted (or “Byeong”), commissioned officer, warrant officer, and non-commissioned officer. Corporals, distinguished by three stripes on the shoulder, are the next rung up from Private First Class. Joining the South Korean military as a Corporal is BTS member J-Hope’s current position. A rank above Corporal, BTS’s Jin is now serving as a Sergeant in the 5th Division.
