Cars 4 Release Date 2023: Is This Film Confirmed This Year?

Pixar has had great success with the Cars franchise, but will there be a fourth installment? The first Cars movie centers on Lightning McQueen, an animated talking race vehicle played by Owen Wilson, who gets stranded in a desert town while en route to a race and must perform community service before being allowed to leave.

After spending time with the locals and developing a little humility, the brazen race vehicle gradually develops a love for the modest community. Cars was a huge hit despite not receiving the same amount of praise as other Pixar films like Toy Story or Monsters, Inc.

The cast of Cars was outstanding as well, with Michael Keaton and the illustrious Paul Newman. As an improvement over the second film and a step in the right direction for the franchise, Cars 3 explored some heavier topics than its predecessors, Cars, and Cars 2. In addition, Cars served as the springboard for a number of spinoffs, including multiple short films, computer games, and the Planes movie franchise.

In spite of plans for a third installment, this series only produced two films before Disneytoon Studios closed. Will there ever be a fourth installment of the Cars franchise? Owen Wilson’s Lightning McQueen and the franchise as a whole have made over $1 billion in international box office revenue.

Cars 4 Release Date 2023

Disney apparently revealed their 2023–2026 film release calendar. The release dates for Cars 4 can still be predicted even though the majority of the films on the list are labeled as “Untitled.”

What We Know About ‘Cars 4’?

Fans and critics alike gave all three Cars movies high marks. Over $1.4 billion was made globally at the box office by the movies. Even though Happy Feet won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the first Cars was nominated.

Based on all of that, Pixar/Disney would probably want to continue the popular franchise. Instead of making sequels for big brands like Toy Story and Cars, the studios have lately been focusing on making unique films (like Soul, Onward, and Luca).

The good news is, some of the faces behind Cars have said before that a fourth movie is possible. “Like any sequel, from Toy Story 4 to Incredibles 2, as long as there’s a good story to tell it’s worth investing, we do love these characters, we love them as much as the public does,” producers Kevin Reher and Andrea Warren said back in 2017.

Meanwhile, Owen said at a Cars 3 press event that he has personal hopes for what a fourth film could be about. “I would imagine that if they do another one, it’ll be something pretty cool,” the actor said. “But yeah maybe like Lightning McQueen in sort of like a thriller. Maybe that could be something.”
