After the post-apocalyptic drama series “See” on Apple TV+, Jason Momoa is preparing for his next significant endeavor with the streaming service. In “Chief of War,” a historical drama series given a nine-episode straight-to-series order in April, the “Aquaman” star will co-create, write, and lead. Momoa’s first television writing endeavor is this project.
Although the project is still in its early phases of creation, we know more about its actors. Momoa and Temuera Morrison, a former “Aquaman” coworker, will work together again on “Chief of War.” Here is everything we currently know about “Chief of War”!
The “Chief of War” series, according to a description provided by Variety, centers on a period of history that “follows the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii” and approaches the subject from the perspective of the indigenous people.

Momoa has long expressed his love and appreciation for his Hawaiian background; his father is of native Hawaiian and Samoan blood, and his mother has Pawnee ancestry. It appears that Momoa’s passions inspired the project.
The series may transport us to the period between 1795 and 1810, when ruler Kamehameha I brought the Hawaiian islands together into a single royal kingdom following years of conflict, based on the description of the show. However, it is unknown if Momoa would portray the legendary King of Hawaii.
Chief of War Release Date
Apple TV+ ordered the eight-episode miniseries, which was revealed in April 2022 that Jason Momoa would star and executive produce. The same month, Justin Chon was slated to helm two of the show’s episodes.
Temuera Morrison, Luciane Buchanan, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikaleo, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Hoke Tuhaka were among the actors who joined the cast after casting announcements in October and November.
By October 2022, New Zealand’s Bay of Islands had been substituted for 18th-century Hawaii for the sake of the television series filming.

Jason Momoa will star in the series, write the script, and serve as the executive producer. His character’s specifics are being kept under wraps. Temuera Morrison, another actor joining the Apple TV+ series, will play King Kahekili, the King of Maui.
The historical character is regarded as a famous warrior chief who almost destroyed his nation. Among Morrison’s other roles are those in the “Aquaman” movies as Thomas Curry, Momoa’s fictional father.
The Disney+ television series “The Book of Boba Fett,” based in the “Star Wars” world, is best recognized for having Morrison as its lead. Before that, he made appearances in several films, including “The Mandalorian,” “Once Were Warriors,” and “Moana.”

There isn’t a trailer for “Chief of War” yet, but it is rumored that production is now taking place in New Zealand, with the Bay of Islands serving as a stand-in for Hawaii in the eighteenth century (via The New Zealand Herald).
Screenwriter Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who previously worked with Momoa on the plot for the action-adventure movie “The Last Manhunt,” joins Momoa as a co-creator. Pa’a Sibbett and Momoa collaborated on the 2018 action-thriller “Braven,” in which Momoa also appeared.
Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Doug Jung are on the list of executive producers; Jung also serves as the showrunner for “Chief of War.” The first two episodes of the series will be directed and executive produced by Justin Chon. Since the series is currently being filmed, we should hopefully find out more about its premiere date soon!
